H.I.Ds
huh? What do you have now? Hologen? For the Max's that come with HID everything is HID except the fogs. With that said it would be best not to do you fogs in HIDs. Being you're in NJ the chances of having fog is pretty good. HID's will just refract the light off the moisture, which serves no purpose, and will not provide good visability for driving. Which is why to fogs arn't and shouldn't be HID.
Now if you're looking to just blare light in oncoming traffic then you're only drawing attention to yourself, so yes - the authorities can stop you if they believe the light is to bright and glaring.
My suggestion is to better understand your state law before you do any modding.
just my .02 cents

Thanks man the cops out here are real nut busters and I was going to do the fog thinking it would help. Lots of deers and bears in the roads by me really sucks. So I will look into Hologen for my H.I.Ds but is there anything I can do to my fogs better?
i m from north jersey as well and the state police are nutbags...especialy to younger drivers...they think all young drivers are potheads / criminals..is it me or when i get pullled over with my STOCK hid they ask me if its stock and i tell them YES IT IS than they said ok and ask if its ok to search the car..NOW thats some bul****...i say if u can turn fogs on and off which you can ..i am gonna change my fogs to HID and just flash some people who act like jerks and sometimes in mountain sides i notice its helpful in pennsyvania as well as kinnelon when i go skying / water rafting..
14000K will give you crappy output in light, yeah it might look purple, but dont get it. do a real HID upgrade with D2S 4100K bulbs. try to find headlights from ebay or junkyards. car-part.com is a site that uses junkyards across the US. I bought some HID headlights from them and it was simply plug and play and true HIDs

yes, bi-xenon. The lights are white up close, from afar they turn blue/purple.
Xenon bulbs are white, because of the projector (where the bulb sits) its reflects a cutoff line (which is that deep blue/purple)
Unless you get those 14000K bulbs, they stay purple all the time. and now some cops in some areas are cracking down on them because they are useless.

newton will def but you for everything. I haven't driven through there in a min but I would say look for something stock, just do the driving lights in the stock halogen or something in a yellow for fogs. good to see another 6th gen in the area.
Both High & Low HID
I have fitted HID to both my high and Low set up , looks wonderful and works well ..
I am thinking of doing my driving lights now as well ..they have Phillips diamond vision bulbs , but still look very yellow ...
My main beam is 6000k which is slightly blue and the High is 4300k very white .
I notice that not a lot of you blokes have not changed the high beam on yours is there any reason for not doing it ??

The HIDs are biXenon, meaning the low and high beams are together. there is a shield that blocks the light (which produces low beam) and once you press the high beams, the shield opens up and the high beam comes out.
its awesome feature.

Even though I just got my SE this week I still have a bit of knowledge on HIDs. I've had 3 cars with them and simply will not drive something without the added light on the road. The problem is with the NON HID equipped Maximas you have a new BiHalogen bulb. That means that both high and low are coming from the same projector. At this point other than H4 non one makes a dual beam aftermarket HID bulb. So that means when you replace the stock halogen bulb with an HID one you will only get low beams. Not to mention the beam pattern is crap. That really leaves the only option of getting stock HID lights and swapping them out. D2S and D2R bulbs are factory on all HID equipped cars. They are however only single beam. The projector itself makes the high and low beams. You can get D2R/D2S bulbs in any color temp you want. But I still think your better off looking for a factory HID housing.
would it just be best for me to buy the Complete Valeo Xenon HID Projector Package? http://www.hidplanet.com/package.html

from car-part.com, i bought xenon headlights off wrecked cars. the headlights were in pretty good condition. one had a couple scratches, but only noticebale from very up close. with swapping headlights, it was the easiest thing you cando to upgrade, just replace and plug it in.
if you go the other route of buying projectors, ballasts and bulbs, its a little more time consuming. you will need to splice and connect wires. a little more tricky, but still can be done.
I do not recommend any of those 14000k kits. get the oem 4100k D2s bulbs, they are the best source of light output. up close you will shine white, from a far, they will be that blue/purple.

Ok there is too much misinformation going on in here.
If you drive a 6th gen Max that comes with OEM halogens then you will need to do one of two things.
1. Purchase a conversion kit, model 9005. Stick with 5000k or 4100k. Anything higher and you lose alot of light output. Go to the following link for info on installing a conversion kit. I know it says I used a 9006 kit at the beginning, this is incorrect. A 9005 kit was used.

-OR-
2. Replace the OEM Halogen assemblies with a OEM Xenon Assembly.
The 6th gen Maxima uses a shutter system. The bulb used is very bright. It can be considered a high beam. When the low beams are on the shutter is closed. The shutter blocks the top half of the bulb so less let exists the projector. When the high beam is turned on the shutter opens completely letting all light out of the projector.
