HELP! Any Air Conditioning Problesm I should know about??

Hi Folks,

Just curious, it has been pretty hot in Toronto this spring and summer and I have used my A/C quite a bit. Today on odd thing starting happening only with my my A/C on. I could feel a fairly violent jolt and shaking of what sounded like the A/C clicking on and off. This is happening once and while while driving or stopped at a light, no pattern but quite reguraly. The shake was noticable enough that I felt it on the steering wheel and my wife actually felt it while we were driving just sitting in the passenger seat.

When I shut off the A/C the problem went away. I idled the car with the A/C on and the jolt and shake still happened although with no real pattern. Idle it without the A/C on the shake is gone.

Are there any A/C problems TSB's I should be aware of.

ONe other thing my drivers side seat has started to squeak and creak, it feels loose, but all the bolts are tight. Any opinions on this as well.

THank you all in advance

FYI I have an 04 SE

I have the same problem with my drivers seat. My seat has started to squeak and creak also. Are there any seat TSB's I should be aware of ? I have a 05 SE with 10k miles and the leather seats option.

As far as the seat goes...is it the seat cushion? I had to have mine replaced. It was squeaking from the seat controls area. Dealer replaced it finally after the third complaint.

I am pretty sure it is the seat cusion on mine, becasue if you grab it by the ends and shift it, you can hear it squeak and the seat is anchored to the car very solidly. How did you finally get the dealer to replace it? Did they only replace the bottome piece or the whole seat?

I am definitely not an AC expert, but 'in the old days' (and maybe still?), the compressor did not run all the time. It cycled on and off at irregular intervals, depending on when the thermostat said cooler air was needed to maintain proper cabin temp.

There is obviously something wrong with your system, as one should never feel the jolt you are getting (or any jolt). All I can think of is it may be associated with the cycling off and on by the AC compressor.

This is definitely a warranty situation, and I would be headed to the dealer, expecting the problem to be fixed at Nissan's expense, no questions asked.

Lightonthehill is right, I have been using my AC since June constantly and I have no problems and can't even tell when the compressor kicks on or off. Have your dealer look at it.

It's my understanding that the AC compressor in our Maxima's will run constantly once it is turned on. Untill the car is turned off it will keep running wether or not the AC is selected on the HVAC control. I remember discussing it here, in regards to fuel economy. The concensus was that there is so little parasitic drag that its not worth worrying about it.

With regards to the problem that Topview01 has...I'd suspect that its the clutch in the compressor that is at issue. Likely the dealership will just replace the unit. I'd check with dealership, get the part on order ASAP. Since its summer it may be backordered since the demand for AC parts is higher during the hot months.
