HELP..Seat Belt Light stays on
HELP..Seat Belt Light stays on
Well after 45,000 miles I have my first problem with my Max, the seat belt light stays illuminated in the instrument cluster even if I am buckled up. Has anyone else had this problem? I went to the dealer since my car is now out of warrantee and even though I have NEVER had my car in for any warrantee work they said there would be a $200 minimum just to troubleshoot.
Now not that I can't afford it but screw them and Nissan; that is a rip off. I have a loaded SE that cost me 33,500 back in June of 03 and never have had the car back to the dealership for anything since I drove it off the lot, and the first time I come in they give me that crap.
This is the last Nissan for me, they get one shot at customer satisfaction and they failed.

Nope, it's 10 years unlimited miles. Press them on this, because this could interfere with the airbags, and the car's recorder in case of accident.
Thanks I seen that also and that is why this has got me PO, when I bought up that issue the service guy he said that this problem is considered electrical and does not follow under seatbelts. I think I am going to go back down there and get nasty. I am concerned if it truly would effect airbag deployment.
Wow, paying the dealership almost 34g and getting this kind of treatment? I would also be PO!
Go down there and get nasty.. they deserve it.
Maybe call the main Nissan # and file an official complaint?
$200 to check a most likely minor electrical problem is a complete ripoff. You did the right thing by refusing.

Don't feel to confident with that main Nissan number... financee' called them about 8 months ago to complain about a nissan dealership wouldn't service his titan becuase he didn't buy it there. There was a problem with his gas tank not accepting gas... and they said that it's an additional cost to them and if they did the service it would be out of pocket,... then when they take the titan to service it (they didn't fix it) they gave him a ****ty F150, then charged him for the gas to fill up the new tank they had to put in and the gas used on the loaner F150.
The people at that Nissan 1-800 there pretty much agreed with everything that was said at the dealership... no matter what the warrenty said, what they book said, or what the Recall said.
Good Luck Man

that is bull ****, it is definatly tied into your seat belt. call the bbb right now and it will be fixed for free within a month. it could be a falty senser in your seat not picking up the seatbelt and if your car thinks your not wearing your seat belt the airbag deployment (GEN II SRS) im sure would be affected as is the recorder in the car. i could be wrong but the passenger side i think should have a sensor also, your not riding around with a hundred pounds of sand in your passenger seat are you. my advice is to get in there and take a look it takes like thirty minutes to remove the seats. take them out check the harnesses and fuses and then check under the hood to see if anything is going on with those fuses or relays. be sue you pull the airbag fuse out first before disconnecting the seats though just to be safe. good luck if you still dont figure it out definatly call the bbb and then call the nissan corporation and let them know what is going on and who you called.
The TSB for it is here: http://www.infinitihelp.com/Ownershi.../NTB05-051.htm

I would definitely use the TSB first, also, just a shot in the dark, however easy, try disconnecting one of your battery terminals for a couple minutes, you will have to re-adjust your save settings, however it could be just a clitch and disconecting/reconnecting the battery terminal may reset it...
Print the TSB out and go to the dealer. It's a simple fix... Done...

I don't read carefully enough sometimes...This is a TSB. This is a known defect with the car. If you walk in there with the TSB my above comment should apply. There is nothing to diagnose. The dealer is getting greedy IMHO. However, stuff should be paid for if they really have to research it. This is a known issue with a known fix...simple as that. Nothing to diagnose. If this doesn't work then that's a different issue. This is a fundemental safety flaw perse. Be polite and talk to a service manager. If you get no where with the TSB then call 800-NISSAN 1 and see what they say.

So my mind asks, after the warranty on any other car make, do you think you'll get a free diagnosis? If you had the Extended service, it would be covered. Everyone wants stuff for free. Time is money. If you can't fix it or research how to fix it, then expect to pay someone to fix it.
Things go wrong in cars, even more so today with all the electronics. Therefore warranties are available. Expecting a lifetime warranty with the car would increase cost across the board.

My seatbelt light has not gone off for almost a year now. The dealership "fixed" it but well since its still on to this day, they obviously didn't. I gave up and i'm used to it being on. I figure as long as i know i have it on thats all that matters.
