New Exhaust going in as we type...

I got sick of all the running around trying to get a Y pipe and Headers for my bus so i just asked a local specialist company to do the job...

Guess what , they took a look at my system and said never mind about the headers the stock units are just fine .. apparently mine has "Cats in Cans" one each bank comming just after the headers ...(So like I have 3 cat converters)

So they are at this moment fabricating a whole new dual 2-1/2" system from the cat cans and then they are ditching the post cat converter and mid way Resonator and replacing it with a sport Resonator.

They are of the opinion that this should lead to heaps of HP being release becasue the current system is very very flat.

All up cost Under $550 US...

Pictures tommorow ...

Sounds just like the system I had built last year:

Finished product sorry about blurry pic..

Sound Great , not at all Ricey... Seems to have given it a fair bit more punch , but early days yet ...

Rear End Mufflers are AMG , merc sports ones I had done ages ago ..

This is my next mod going in next week to be wired up to do my blue tooth phone. Using a V3 Motorolla car kit and just needs the wires rerouted to the new steering wheel control.

Very nice. You have the fabricated look going there, all mandrel bend pieces. It looks like I'm heading in this direction as well. Are the AMG mufflers the ones with dual square tips?

Na mine are the round ones it was an old stock never sold set for S500 class that I scrounged when I had a merc and was mucking around with them .. I had Dual tips welded on ... They are very light weight but really top quality gear.

Yes they did a great job in like 3 hours and you could not fault the price.. ended up at only $495 US and that was doing it from scratch ... they just built the whole lot there and then to fit...

I think this is a better way to get more for your money. I don't mind the fabricated look at all, plus easy to repair if needed. By adding dual mufflers too, it won't cost more than $8-900US total. Enjoy!

So I quess your phone will be the able to be the remote. Nice. I Like the y-pipe. I am going to see chernmax this weekend. We are going to install the grounding kit and hopefully the other item is ready.

Space is at a preimum down there you would have to run like 1" dual pipes to make it viable and it would defeat the purpose somewhat...

My exhaust guy had a look at it and said no way.... The chassis subframe member at the front would have need some serious modifications to do it and that would have required a certification and no end of headaches.. That or else you would have like an 2" of clearance between it and the ground.

I can see why all the exhust maufactures have an issue with doing headers with out cars , we are a bit of a rare bird with individual cat converters on each bank of the header positioned as a part of the header units. Then one in the mid pipe section to boot. This car must exceed California emmissions requirements by a fair bit ... I heard that they are pretty strict over there with emmissions and all.

6th gens are considered Ultra Low Emmission Vehicles, not sure about other VQ35 cars.
I know a few years ago it was ~$2-3k fine for no cat + impound car. I have seen cops with EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) truck parked near schools/colleges and picked ricers out of traffic for on-the-spot testing. I hear this still happends occasionally. I still don't know how some get away with hugh front mount intercoolers though.

Intercoolers don't have anything to do with emissions, that's why.

Intercoolers on non-turbo cars like 240SX's, Integras, and likes suggest that there might be something else in those cars, just like big wings, ehxausts, and front airdams. That has to do with emmision, CARB regulations. Add-on turbos and superchargers are for "off-road" use only, like headers and y-pipes.

I thought we were talking about exhaust systems. Intercoolers are situated on the intake side of the motor. But I agree with you, an exposed intercooler would be a red flag for anybody looking for cars with illegal mods.

Having an aftermarket turbo/sc doesn't necessarily mean that you won't pass emisisons.

I know it was off-topics.

More off-topics. Visually, at least in CA, will not pass inspection w/o $$$. Emission wise and without other mods, might pass. Most who are forced fed have other mods too.
