Need Help with Aftermarket HIDs

I have searched on this site and have never really been able to come up with a full answer in regards to the 6th gen and aftermarket Xenon's.

I currently have halogens from the factory and I would really like to upgrade to HID's. How hard is this conversion? What do I need to do it, and where can I get the parts? How much time and money should I expect to spend?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a 2004 SE.

hey buddy, i have a 2005 maxima, and you need to go over to the groupbuy/group purchase section, and look under HID's kits. there is a guys there maximabest i think is his screename, and there is a huge forum topic on the subject.. alot of reading.. read it all though, it will answer most if not all your questions, if not ask, like i am doing... I do believe i have halogen too, i dont know if i do or not, i bought my car used and it didnt tell me, and the dealership couldnt tell either. ... I have to take my lights apart to see if i have it or not.. Later.

Just turn your headlights on and look at them...the halogens have more of a orange (regular) look, while the hid's have more of a blue look.

Plus HID's also seem to have a more focus beam, some even mistake the brightness of the blue for High Beams, their is also a flicker to them when turned on light a flash bulb.

usually, aftermarket HID kits are just plug and play, very easy.
i've never installed HID kits on maximas, but I installed them on my previous car and my friends cars. usually takes about an hour, most of the time to mount the ballasts.

The guys are right about the hid's they are very easy to notice as they really stand out when you look at them. The blue/purplish hue can easily be seen. They also start like a flourescent bulb looking like they are warming up when you first turn them on. If you have an sl model they are normally standard unless the previous owner chose the xenon delete option.

how can you not tell if you have hid's or not? oh well an easy way to to tell if you dont want to turn ur head lights on is to look at ur cd deck if its the bose system u prob do and if its not the bose system ur prob dont, becase the DDP package gives u the HID and DDP come with Bose assuming u have a SE max

Thank you guys for such a quick response and all the info. Looks like I need to head over to the group buy section and check it out. I know I have the halogens, although I hate that I do, on the maxima it is really easy to tell.

Anyone that has done it on our 6th gen out there?

Thanks again.

You *DONT* need to take your lights apart. Just compare your
lights to a late model BMW 5 series or Mercedes or
high end Volvo or whatever.

The dealership is bull ****ting you if they're claiming they
cant tell if you have HID or not.

Yep... if you look at them and you go blind, you got HIDs... if you only get a headache, you got halogens.

Seriously though... somebody posted the pic of the white vs. yellow light on both setups... I think that shows it perfectly for the un-initiated.

Simple was to tell if you have HIDs or not.
Turn on your headlights. If you have HIDs when they 1st come on they'll be a deep blue/green color then they fade into pure white. Plus you'll have a razor sharp cut off. If you cut your lights on an they are yellow then you've got halogens.

best way, get your self a pair of OEM HID assemblies. Check e-bay or local repair shops, things like that. personaly i got new bulbs when i did mine. i got them from HIDPlanet.com time takes maybe a couple of hrs, the tough part is taking the front bumper off. (and its really quite easy, everything is easy to locate) once you get that off you un bolt your halogen assemblies and bolt up the HID ones. they plug right in and trust me you wont wanna go back once you get this upgrade.

So you just replaced your OEM halogen headlight assembly with a OEM HID assembly and that was it? The HID plugged right in?

Guys, WHOA.. Like i said i am NEW with the HID's understanding. I have seen them, but most ones i have seen had the reflector type in the housing like our 6gens do. My lights are really bright, and have an outer blueish hue to them, which i thought might be HID, but i think it comes from the projector.. I am just going to replace them with stock OEM HID;s.. I have it worked out with some one to do so.. So from what i understand i think i can just replace them and hook them up to the stock wiring, i.e. Plug and Play correct?

thanks guys,.,.,.

About H.i.d

I Have 2004 Se.. Same Car As Yours.

I Bought The Kit For $300 Total.. My Friends Gave It To Me For My Birthday Present. Installation Took Me About 2 Hours.

You Have To Take The Whole Bumper Out And You Need To Make A Hole On The Cover. So The Wires Can Go Through..

For More Info Pm Me.

You also might want to spend the extra $$ on bi-xenons. When you take your car in for a state inspection, they see if you have high beams. If not, you fail.. atleast you do in NJ.

Or.

You can just go back to stock before the inspection, but that's a pain in the a$$.
