NISMO Intake installed!

All in all a good piece. Many parts to fit together which I do not care for. The AEM seems very appealing with the one pipe. The packaging says '02-'03 Altima so this IS an Altima intake. The rubber mount that attaches the pipe to the inside fender is too thick. This caused the air filter to rub against the turn light. I had to trim the rubber and cut a hole through it to attach a new bolt. Cutting the rubber in half solved the rubbing problem.

It is quiet until about 4500rpm or so when it gets pretty loud under full throttle. There is no whistle under part throttle as I have experienced with short intakes.

Be sure to get part #: 16576-RNA35! www.PerformanceNissanParts.com sells part#: 16576RNL15 and lists it for a '04+ Maxima which is really a Altima intake. I called them this morning and told them about the problem.

Is this the one NPM tested on the SE-R and saw massive gains in the midrange?

I was wondering why your bay looked weird (everything is black in mine) 2nd offenses of dirty pics are subject to ban.

and that's an 05??? wow, dusty out there in Sin City huh?
take off the old air box mount to save weight! .05 lbs saved!!! I guess you also removed the intake opening by the grille?

It is right next to the throttle body but since this is a Altima intake and NISMO did not change the bend (to fit Maxima) the pipe had to be installed upsidedown to fit correctly.

I know! This is unlike me to have the engine bay to dirty. I have been spending all of my time getting my Spec Miata ready for the next race. Here is a pic of the new motor I just put in today:

An intake with Nissan's ECU gives you gains of sound as far as we know. There have been some positive dyno tests by both NISMO and independants but we are not sure if the gains stick.

for those not knowing, nismo HAS MADE one for the 04+Maxima (1st one!). so his minor issues should be resolved.

there is NO warranty since it's an R-tune (racing) part. only nismo S-tune (street) are warranted.

I saw the picture and it sure doesn't look like its worth the price. I think there are members out there who can make a better product.

Just my 2 cents.

So the above mentioned intake is not a warranted part? WTF I've been waiting this whole time for Nismo to come through I should have just went with AEM. Will they ever produce an S-Tune version?

well there you go. but that contradicts what the Nissan site states. If you buy it there and they install it, probably. But I bet if you bring in one you got elsewhere, doubtful. Get it in writing.

Their S-Tune is the replacement filter only, I think.

Sounds like i should get it in writing but does the dealer do that? Plus i know the dealership and me and my family have done lots of business with them all our services and repairs are done with them. But the Service guys didnt tell me it would be under warranty it was the parts dept, who checked with i dont know who , that told me the Nismo intake is covered under warranty.
I call again and let you guys know.

Hey Nismo, if that is the case then why do you post your car pictures in your signature block?

Just food for thought.

I called my dealer again today and spoke to the service dept and asked the service manager if i bought the Nismo intake from them and had them install it they would still keep my warranty intake and he said yes. But he said they must install it and maintain it after every oil change. So i guess im good.

there you go. I figured it was a dealer thing, not Nissan. I sure hope that doesn't require them to replace your filter every oil change.

My math computes: dealer oil change fees + possible air filter cleaning/replacing = a lot more than new CAI.

but, atleast they can't blame you for it causing problems, void other warranties. Plus, coming around so much, you'll get to know them and they'll be more willing to go to bat for you down the road (which it seems you already do).

All I see is the picture of the box. I wouldn't trust this guy. Why not show a picture of the intake?

So you got any more evaluations on the Nismo intake since you've installed it?

The new Nismo intake for the Maxima has bigger piping than the Altima one. The diameter size is 3 1/4 inches instead of 3inches. Also Nismo released a dyno chart stating its gains which I believe was 14whp and 12wtq. I have the paper at work , hopefully I can scan the paper and post it here. Although I dont really believe the gain is that much. I might buy the new intake and sell the Altima one I have instead to see how it is. And this time I will dyno the results for sure. I wasnt able to before because I havent had time to go and didnt have much money to just spend hehe. I know that I did gain some on the low and mid but on the top end I lost some.

i hope it's not the "dyno" posted by Jerry Rome. it listed those gains at 6400 RPM.... which makes no sense at all, especially since each peak was at a different RPM and no where near 6400 in the DRAWING.

Happy to hear the Max version is different though.

Are you going to spend 300 dollars for a difference of a 1/4". If I were you I would dyno the car with the intake you have and really see what the difference is. My 2 cents.

Peace

If performance increase is as advertised A+, however I give them a F in looks. I still like Injen better, and if I did swap, I will go with AEM (red) because I think it would look hot under my hood...

I think nismo is the way to go... AEM and all those other ones are too ricey for me. Nismo has that semi-stock look with the sound and power? so why anything else?

When did intakes start costing $300!? jeez..I guess the Maxima is an expensive car to modify. And Nissan voids warranty unless it's a nismo installed and purchased from the dealer?? The AEM cai on my gsr cost me $125, and the dealer never said anything about warranty voids from an intake when I took it in for service.
And I do agree, the nismo intake isn't the best looking intake. It almost looks home made, although I would still go with it to avoid any warranty issues.

My next intake is the black fujita it has a double mount and less prone to breaking off, less parts also.

Then they also by law have to offer the oil/filter change free of charge. Dealerships are not allowed to force you to have your oil/filter changed at their location to maintain warranty, so...

...guess you can drive in there everytime you've had your oil changed and tell them it's time for them to "maintenance" your intake??

Congress in 1975 enacted the federal Magnuson-Moss Act to regulate written consumer product warranties.

I've been reading around here how people are gettin their Nismo CAI and being able to keep their warranty and all. I just contacted my dealer and they told me that it will effect my warranty, It wont pass smog, and they told me about a guy that drives a Z got one and shorted out his MAF. but basically as long as nothin goes wrong, it should be ok.

P.S. can we get a sound clip of the Nismo intake by any chance?

nismo CAI

Mine looks clean and good under the hood. The sound is awesome at about 5 thousy RPMs. the warranty is for the part, not the warranty of your car. This is a nissan part. The R tune has no warranty, but that does not affect your car warranty. i had mine put on a while ago when they first came out and have had no issues. The filter does not need to be cleaned every oil change unless you really want them to. Also, if you are getting your oil changed every 10 thousy, then you can get it cleaned. I switch between 2 dealerships and have had no issues with warranty. It did cost me $200 to install, but looks awesome. Takes about an hour.
