No chrome rim option on 2004??

Long story short. Purchased my 04 Maxima used, Had problem with tires losing air, no leaks in tire, inside of rim was basically disenegrating or pitting. Was told by the dealer that the rims were dipped in chrome therefore voidng any warranty. I have no way of proving if these things were dipped or not. The dealer I bought the car from is out of business. Consumer Affairs said after running my VIN that there was no chrome rim option on the 2004 until after my car was built. Dealer wants $1200 for new 18 inch chrome ones. Consumer affairs wont even split the cost with me. Any thoughts.

I can't vouch for their accuracy, but Edmunds.com indicates that 18" chrome wheels were an option on the '04 Maxima.

It depends on the vin number which he had already checked out. Just like XM radio some earlier '04's were not wired up for it.

Chrome rims were not an option when I bought my 04 in Sept 03, however for $1200 clams, you might as well get some decent aftermarket rims. Also if you have to buy, check the tires/wheels section on the Org, lots of great deals...

The factory chromes are a 5-spoke wheel.

The dipped in chrome wheels are usually the stock SE wheel which is a 6-spoke wheel like the ones in my signature.

Do you have a 5 or 6 spoke chrome wheel?

Like it was stated depends on when the 04 was built my 04 when ordered the chrome wheels was NOT a factory option but a dealer option. I bought my chrome wheels off of ebay for 550$ nice wheels and great company.

I almost get the feeling that is exactly what the previous owner of glennjr's Max did and the chroming process either outright caused the damage or exacerbated an existing flaw/defect in the factory wheel.

Exactly, thanks for the pic. They actually look better on the car than I thought they would. I still like the 6spoke chrome though.

Yes, mine are the six spoke rim. The inside is just all chewed up and I am putting air in the tires at a clip of like 8 PSI per month. I like to keep things as OEM as possible, are there any aftermarkets like the ones in Scramblinmans pic?? Thanks as always!

Try www.lakeshorewheelandtire.com

They have the OE chromies for like $360-370 each. This would be way cheaper than the dealership. They are 5 spoke. You could call and ask if they are replicas, but I don't think they are.

Well Glenn, looks like you have a set of 6th gen OEM SE rims that someone dipped in chrome. Probably not any warranty from anyone on those unless you can find out who did the chroming.

One the positive side, you might be able to pick up a single chrome rim off Ebay or you can get a painted one and have it dipped.

See found one of them for you:

Not sure why it says 7.5in wide, I would double check that first.
Good luck!

It says 7 1/2" wide because that is the correct OEM wheel width.

Look on the back side of the rim, maybe there is a Nissan stamp or part# on it?

DOH! (Stock Nissan Wheels are 18x7.5 with 40 offset and 114.5mm bolt circle) I stand corrected. Thanks
