Red stuff on battery terminals

I had my 1 year maintenance done at the dealer last week, and when I popped the hood today, I noticed some stuff around the pos. and neg. terminals of the battery. It's dark kind of candy-apple red dried sticky stuff. Looks like it may have been sprayed on, or maybe something is leaking. WTF? Anyone have any ideas?

Thx.

If you install these you would not have to worry about corrosion.
