New discovery on 6th Gen Auto tranny!

honestly I think the car is faster if you just leave the auto tranny in manual mode at the let the car shift for it self, it revs to 300 rpm under redline then shifts automaticly with no delay.

sooo... lets say i am on first gear...i rev the car up to red line and then let it go to second gear ?? and do the same ??
explain please.... not really good at this...thats why i have an automatic... but i would like to try it...

Luigi....just sit at a red light with the car in drive....flip it to manual mode and pull (and hold) the shifter down to the (-). Then give it gas and start driving while keeping the shifter pulled back in the (-) position. What will happen is the car will go all the way to redline if you do not let the shifter leave the (-) position. I did it and eventually you will hit the rev limiter when it passes the redline, I wouldnt make a habit of this either.

I haven’t pushed it that hard . . . .yet! Can someone please answer this, if you are stopped and in 1st and you do not hold the shifter in the (-) while accelerating, will it automatically shift to 2nd before redline? If so at what rpm does it shift? Anyone?
Like Nismo said earlier about holding in (+) to keep it in 2nd gear at stops. I've done this even in 3rd and stopped. This comes in handy on icy roads so you can start from a stop in a higher gear.

The car will eventually shift if you push it... and if you downshift to a really high RPM the car will shift back on its own.

I love the "winter mode" in my other car, and I was really happy to find out you can do this with the Maxima. Switching to winter in my other car starts in 2nd gear, and moves the shift points to make it a smoother ride on ice/snow. This will come in handy this winter, that's for sure...

Thanks viguera, but I was still at work at the time.
So on the way home from work I started in 1st and did not hold in (-) and it shifted to 2nd around 5800 to 6000 rpm. So I really don't see a big advantage to holding in (-) in the lower gears and potentially bounce off the rev limiter.
