How many brake lights?

I was just thinking about this after reading another post... I have the G35 spoiler on my Maxima with the LED brake lights, and I disconnected the rear shelf light because it just didn't look right. I have seen a couple of cars where they leave the stock 3rd brake light on and the spoiler acts as a 4th, but I just don't think it looks right...

What do you guys with spoilers think about this? Does it look tacky to have the OEM light on and the spoiler, does it look better without, or what?

Just wondering...

Viguera, i just installed the same spolier today..it looks great! But, the LED light is not working. I tried splicing into the right rear brake light but nothing. Which color wire did you use from the spolier to which color wire in the rear brake light? I appreciate any assistance.

Thanks,
E

Sorry I can't help you... I had mine installed by my body shop after they painted it. They ran the wiring along with the existing wiring to the trunk on the right side, but I'm not sure if they went to the brake light or all the way to the shelf.

Tomorrow when it's light out if I have some time I'll take the carpet off and see what they did.

Thanks. I have installed spoliers before, so I did it myself. But this is the first one with a rear brake light, so I don't know why it isn't working. I appreciate it, but you don't have to go through all the trouble. I sent a few emails out to people that have the spoiler so maybe they will be able to tell me.

No trouble... I'll keep an eye on the thread and see if you get it taken care of (and post pictures damnit ). It's not really a big deal to take the carpet out just to look.

Either way, I would have probably (eventually) dont it myself but I wasn't happy about drilling into the lid, plus the body shop guy did it for free anyway, so I was happy.

I have the same setup and I asked the same question way back when after I put mine on. Everyone I asked (from the installer to my neighbors to clowns on the street) said that it wasn't noticeable. I thought it was WACK until said that they didn't even notice the third light on the car. I left it alone but it still bothers me a little.

Hands down, the brake light on the rear deck looks tacky w/ the spoiler brake light connected. I see other people w/ aftermarket spoilers w/ the extra brake light on and it looks so tacky and WHACK when they leave it connected... Anyway, I disconnected my rear deck light so that only the spoiler light comes on when braking... Looks so much cleaner, as if the car was originally built w/ the spoiler...

PEACE!!!

Is it easy to remove the deck light?

You can't really remove it... you can disconnect it, but Nissan (of course) made it so that removing it would leave an unsightly mess back there. There are 3 big holes that you can't really cover (unless you know a carpet guy that can match the rest of the deck), so what I did was remove it, disconnect the power and put it back.

As far as easy, you painted your headlight chrome... anything else is child's play by comparison. But seriously though, it's just snap on... grab it and squeeze it, there are clips in front and behind that hold it in place. Really simple.

Viguera...I removed the deck light today, actually it was easier then routing the wire to the rear brake light. I spliced in the spolier LED and it worked perfect. I disconnected the read deck light. But, now I want to bring the car back to the tint shop remove the deck light and have him tint just that small spot. Then I'll put the deck light back on (only because of the holes you were talking about). Once I get the spot tinted, then from the outside you won't be able to see the deck light. I think it would give the car a cleaner look and make it look more like an OEM job.

I'll take pics and post shortly.

I got 35% and it's noticeable, probably because of the Latte interior. My guess is that 20 or 5% would make it disappear, but I'm happy with what I went with...

As far as the spot goes... when I went to get my car tinted I made sure he was gonna cover the whole window. I know some tinters don't and I think you're not supposed to tint over the brake light, but I really didn't want the non-tinted square space there...
