6th gen Maxima mistaken for Altima on Jeopardy!

Alright, so I was watching Jeopardy! the other day (don't laugh ) and they had a car category... bsaically, name the car as shown on the screen. They had a Corvette, Thunderbird, Accord, Prius (I think... don't remember), and... a 6th gen Maxima. The prevous champion buzzed in immediately and said "Altima!!". Wrong. He actually ended up losing. lol.

Just thought this was funny.

I've had a lot of people complain that the 6th gen looks to much like an altima compared to their 5th gens.

Noone saw this happening years ago, all car companies decided to make their lineups share similiar looks, most don't even know how big their engine is or how much air goes in the tires, the basic car stuff you should know so when they call my Maxima an Altima Im like yup

It's the whole family resemblance thing. I agree and disagree with it at times. Either way the maxima looks better 06 or 07.

I saw it, and it was the only category ever that I could get all of them correct.

Yeah I went to the dealer today, and I am pretty observant in genreal and especially when I'm standing on the Nissan lot. I was standing right in front of the '07 Max and asked my sales guy, "so did you guys get any '07 Maxima's in yet?" He turns and points and say yeah right there. I thought it was an Alitma!!!

My friend bought a bottom of the line Altima for his kid. We met out for dinner one night and he's like "these cars are identical". I half heartedly say: "Yeah, it makes no sense to spend more on the Max"

I am pissed at Nissan for this. The sheeple really can't tell the difference between the two. The "Flagship" should stand out or I should get the new Altima.

???? I don't understand how people can confuse... I just bought my Max Gen 5... I can tell the diff a mile away. Plus, Max is just, HOT HOT HOT... If I had the money I would get the 06-07 in a heartbeat...

Wonder what the 08 is gonna look like.

You'd be surprised at how little people actually know about cars. Other than car guys/gals. I'm a car guy and the TL/TSX still throw mw off once in a while.

I'm holding out for the next gen. If it doesn't meet my expectations, something else will.

My wife can't tell the front ends from each other. And I dont blame her. They look similar enough.

I tell her, front end: With Max, look for the corner markers on the sides. Alt's have the center fog lights. And Max's have two grills and a plate under the hamburger. Alt's have one wide grill, and nothing under the hamburger.
Side, look at the door handles. Alt's have the "nail breakers" grab under handles, where Max's have the pull out handles.
Read, chrome tail lights give away the Alt. Max's have the twin tailpipes and all red lights.

She's got it down now. But didn't notice the diff. on her own.

After it's all said and done the 2007 Altima is a much better car than the 2007 Maxima. It's just a shame that I am now considering trading my Max for an Altima.

I watch just about every episode of Jeopardy, and I was furious when I saw the guy miss that question. Then, to make it even worse, neither of the other 2 people knew it!

I got an idea, take your head out of the encylcopedia for a minute, and learn your f****ing cars!!!

Don't feel ashamed. The Altima offers pretty much everything a Maxima offers, and it is much cheaper pricewise.

Our local dealership just built a new building. They moved from an old crappy shared Chrysler/Nissan lot to a soley Nissan lot. The new building is NICE. Completely air conditioned service area, new lot, etc.

They had an open house there tonight and gave away a 94 Ford Taurus (they even had it wraped up in a tarp until the winner was announced - everyone was expecting a new car...).

Anyway, I was there checking out a 2006 Murano when a girl walks up and asks "Where are the Maximas? I love those cars." and then proceeds to look at the Altima next to me and says "Oh here they are.".

I really hadn't noticed that people get the cars so confused until recently.

I have ran into similar situations with my Altima...a LOT of folks think the curernt Altima is the MAXIMA because the car is so big.

I remember when I first got my 05, everybody thought it was a Maxima...couldn't believe it was an Altima because the car is so much bigger than the first two generations of Altimas.

I have never had a problem distinguishing between the current Maxima and the current Altima. Even with the facelift I can still tell them apart, but I'm a Nissan fanatic. My mother, who loves Hondas can't tell the difference.

I hope Nissan does make the Maxima more different from the Altima when its redesigned because it seems that the Maxima is redundant in Nissan's lineup...
