That's what my Bose system did on my last Max. I would drive over railroad tracks or pot holes and it would clear up for a few minutes. I didn't think it was worth repairing and I got rid of the car before upgrading the system to a Pioneer or other superior brand. I wish Nissan would scrap Bose for something truly high end like Mark Levinson (like Lexus)! Not to upset Bose fans - I was just a bit dissapointed with the quality & reliability of a system of that price.
I think the problem is just a loose connection somewhere.

Do you have bose? If so the replacement for speakers are crazy from the dealer. How many miles? If under 12k you should be under warranty. It is expensive to upgrade the bose system because of theway that are made. If you have the non bose you are probably better of upgrading if not under warranty. It sounds like a short circuit. When most speakers burst they make alot of rattlingm noise like blowing on paper. They also could be busted with the description you gave.

see i don't kno about that...i crashed my max and it was considered totaled...and surprisingly the stero still worked...achually it was still working after the crash...the only thing was that the headunit screen i think screwed up...buh otherwise i've had no problems with it. it handles anything i throw at it...nd more. buh ML is a great sound system. buh if anything i would have gone with KH...now thats a swt sound system for about $5000

Not sure if its still a problem on the 6Gs, but that exact issue was a known common problem on 5G Bose units. There was an plug that used to slip inside. Mine did it just before I traded it. I fixed it by giving the center stack, just to the left of the radio, a good thump with my fist.

Clarion had issued a fix, but mine was beyond the bumper-bumper warranty and only 3 mos from lease end, so I lived with. Only did it the one time, anyway.

Thats exactly was i was going to tell you, is not the speakers, its the cd player same exact thing happend to me, hopefully you are still under warranty, if not, i think the problem its on the connector and not the player, try hiting the side of the console, see if you get some noise thats what mine did, but since i was under warranty they replaced the whole thing

that problem is also notorious for us 5.5 gens with the BLOSE...it's the HU itself, and i'm on my third one already...next time it breaks i'll just be screwed until i can afford to go Aftermarket because i'm out of warranty now. It's covered until 36k miles just for the record.

ouch, you know that most likely you've got to replace speaker and head unit at the same time and probably new wiring....

no, it has something to do with the speed sensitive volume control..I used to use it all the time, and with my last two HU's the SCV would first start to stick and it would get loud all of a sudden, then it started to do the cutting out on the left side thing, even if the SCV was turned off. I haven't been using it with this HU so it's still working

so that was a relief

I don't want to upset anyone as I have the BOSE stereo too but BOSE system is one of the worst car audio systems out there. I read this article on about.com how people complain about it and the author said that BOSE makes helluva home systems but their car audio plain sucks. The article also states that millions of individuals are pushed into paying extra for their car systems every year just because of the name. I strongly agree, OUR AUDIO SYSTEM SUCKS D-CK!

I'm with you Atlanta Tider.

BOSE is completely overrated. Test out other speaker systems and I guarantee you'll eventually encounter a set that blows you away.

I just added a pair of 10" woofers in the trank using custom enclosure and it greatly improved the sound quality. The box is cut out to countour the wheel wells and takes up only the rear of the trunk. The is this guy on ebay and his enclosure totally rocks!

I found this interesting:
http://intellexual.net/bose.html

An interesting read about the Bose satellite home theater system from an engineering perspective. I wonder if the design and quality issues brought up in the above website applies to their auto products too. If so, I guess I must have bad ears since I love the sound of my Bose in my Maxima. I wouldn't buy it for the house though.

I used to work with an engineer that had worked at Dolby Digital and did the bulk of the design work on their Dolby Digital systems for theaters. He was an MIT grad and had some insight to Bose from his time in Boston. He too said it was crap and way over priced.

I read somewhere (here or elsewhere?) that the HU for the Bose systems are actually Clarions. What about the amps and speakers? Is this really a Bose system or just labeled Bose?

Do Clarion still makes the Nissan HU ? The Bose system in my '97GLE dropped 1/2 the sound one day. I took out the headunit and re-solder the connectors where the faceplate hooked into the main circuit board. I didnot even need to disassemble the unit. The connectors were on the faceplate which came out pretty easy. The solder material must be bad since they just cracked. I know it was the problem since banging on the HU sometimes gave the sound back. So if you have this sort of issues, or some of the control buttons act up, that could the cause.
Bose don't make the HU. They only make the speakers and work with car makers to analyze the cabin layout and speakers placement. At least that what was said with my '97Max brochure.
