Engine making a click noise

Just started about 2-3 days ago. Turned my car on, and started to hear this unusual clicking like sound come from under the hood. If I push the RPM past 3 1/2 or 4, the normal sound will be back, but if the engine is idle or I rev it up to 1 - 3 rpm's, I can still hear the little clicking noise

The clicking noise is what it sounds like, don't exactly know what the problem is & I really don't want to take it to Nissan, they might tell me I need to get a new engine and I'll have to say

Appreciate any suggestions to fix the problem or any input at all...

This has happened to me too, I've noticed a f-in clickign sound and it pisses the **** out of me..

My Max is kinda fu**ed up at the moment because it needs to go in for the following..and while I'm at it I'll have them look at that...

Tranny Slip
Engine Click
New Spark Plug (May be the reason why engine clicking)
Squeaky engine on cold start
VERY odd noise on cold start that just happened 2 days ago
12V Power Blew Out

So they need to work on it..Still under warranty....2 yrs old, 30k miles

I think the CPU unit in your car runs auto diag and when it's done, you will hear clicking noise. This is I Believe normal for maxima or I may be completely wrong.

Sounds like engine knock - try going one notch up on the octane of your gas, it should stop doing that...I personally use Shell V-Power (91) and never had this kind of problem. I hope this helps.

I had the same noise- it was the exhaust gussets- both were crached and made a horrible rattling sound.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

Well you guys said to try putting different gas in my car, but this all happened I think after I put Sunoco 93+ in my car, so maybe go back down?

I'm thinking it could be oil change, because I am close to it, 200 miles away.

I'll update you guys once I solve the problem, hopefully this weekend

Thanks again for the responses.

If you left your car overnight on the streets of Baghdad then this ticking could really be a big problem.

Sorry, I have no idea what it could be.

Hi vir420 I have a tick also in the engine compartment to. I have an appt. tomorrow for nissan to check it out but it only happens when it is at operating temp. and in drive tick tick or tick knock. I have been using ultra 93 sunoco gas since aug 2003 in this max and I only have 12,800 miles on her. I just love a really slow brake in period. I would look to tsb # 04019 go to www.nissanhelp.com and look for it. Im sorry I just dont know how to hyperlink it or even if I can here. good luck

The problem on my Maxima was an engine mount in the middle in the back of the engine. That electrical mount is located inside a steal support beam and is there to take the tork generated by sudden accelerations and engine start. It is a 500$ job (parts and labor) to get it replaced.
