Engine oil trivia

We recently moved to Jonesboro, AR (Northeast part) and I just want to ask if it's ok to use 10W30 in my Max or switch to 5W30. By the way, we don't normally get temps below 0 deg F over here during winter, maybe up to (-) 5 deg F but rarely. Any suggestions and comments are most welcome. Thanks!

You'll be fine with either. As the 5W30 is slightly less viscous you'll gain marginal power and fuel efficiency and lose just a little bit of protection to internal components. I have a Nissan 4 cyl. in an older car and have used 5W30 and it's got over 200K and still runs perfectly with no major work everdone to it.

Thanks man! But would it be ok too if I switch to 5W30 this winter?

You should have a look in the oil and fluids part of this site. Very good info about oils and especially filters for our cars.

It's some trans fluid that you can only get at the dealer. Don't use off the shelf trans fluid. Again, check the Oils forum: http://forums.maxima.org/forumdisplay.php?f=70, they have the best info for our cars.
