i am so pissed off!

it seems nobody here in Miami is willing to put their hands on a 6th gen. i finally bought my HU, Kenwood DDX6019 with the 9" Innovatek monitors. I have gone to 6-7 shops around here and everybody has a different excuse to not do what i want.
all i want done is what i have seen here many times. move the info screen to the bottom compartment, and put the dvd player on the top. i've been told here it shouldnt take more than 2-3 hours and that $100-150 was a reasonable price right?
well, one shop said it'd take them 2-3 days to do it another place said they wouldn't dare do it but that i was looking at spending $1,000-1,500. Another said it couldn't be done and keep the cd changer/cassette working. basically, everyone has said something different and i'm with all my stuff without installation...which is really upsetting because i spent all last week making sure everything was delivered overnight and everything was ready for installation today in the morning...

ARGHHHH

anyways, can one of you guys that have done this already point me in the direction of how hard it really is and how much money it really should be? more importantly, if there's anyone here from the Miami/Broward area (or anywhere nearby for that matter) can you tell me where to go? help!

Ummm, which shops have you gone too? The only one I can tell you will most likely do it because they've done all the things on my car is JR Electronics. I know a few other places but can't think of them right off the top. Should try giving JR a call.

You can also go to Cartronics. They're located on U.S. 1 right by The Falls. I know for a fact they'll do it there as well.

is JR Electronics the one on SW 40th? which one do you think will do a better job for the money (don't exactly want the cheaper one of the two if the job will be crap-tacular you know)
did you do what i want to do to the car? did you have to buy any kits or anything (so i can buy them ahead of time?)thanks a lot!

I'd say go with CarTronics better becuase they're a bit more reputable. Yes JR is the one on Bird and 92nd I believe. Anyways, I know for a fact that Cartronics can do what you want done because about a year or so I inquired with them on a similar setup and they told me it was no problem, that they can hook it up that way. So far this is what I've done with the car, but keep in my mind I did this in JR not Cartronics...

In all honesty I don't have the slightest clue. If you have everything needed, I'm pretty sure labor might run up to like $300-$400 probably much less than that. As you said give them a call and see what they tell you. As I said though for the setup you want you might want to go ahead and do it with Cartronics, but call JR and see if they can do that for you, and if they can than it works out for you.

well i called Cartronics and I spoke with a guy, JR or KR or something. he says they'll definetively do anything I want as long as i'm willing to pay for it. he told me to drop by for him to look at the car and give me a quote. so monday i'll be going to both Cartronics and JR Electronics and get a quote, and hopefully get it installed soon.

just a quick question, since i was told it wouldn't work today by one of the shops. doing the installation the way i want, i'll still be able to use my cd changer and cassette player right? i'm not losing any functionality but rather adding one (the dvd player)...right? or am i missing something here?

that screen swap is so simple to do, just think about doing it yourself. you won't loose anything if you are just adding a dvd player and some extra screens.

i seem to have very bad luck when it comes to DIYs. however, i'll consider it if there's step by step instructions on how to do the whole thing (i found the one to remove the dash, but what about moving it down, and putting in the dvd? etc?

thats all it is, take the dash apart, unscrew the screen, move it down to the pocket, it fits in there no problem, just add some small foam or something to keep it tight in the pocket. the wire is long enough as is.

do you have just a dvd player or a dvd headunit?

i've got Kenwood's DDX6019, it's a double-din headunit with a motorized faceplate, with the dvd player right behind the screen.
do you think i should try to move the screen myself and then just have the shop put the dvd player on top? i went to Cartronics today and they quoted me $250 and about 5-6 hours of work. they, however, would not do it the way i want to, but using a metra kit instead that would remove my cd-changer and radio. everyone keeps telling me i can't keep the cd-changer and cassette player and i would really like to keep them. what's the issue here?

yea, move it yourself, save money, its way easy.

the cd changer and tape are all one peice and cannot be used with the aftermarket unit..

if you can't use the cd changer or the cassette player, what would be the point of putting the OEM screen on the bottom compartment? i mean, i'm not putting a 3rd screen (not now, not later), so what the heck do i do with all that space, having non-working cd changer and tape player?
what i still don't understand is why it cant be done. i understand the tape and cd changer are one piece. fine, connect the whole thing to the new screen, or even, keep it connected the original way. the way i thought things worked were somehow like this:

since i dont have SAT radio, i thought of making it so when you press the SAT button it would turn on the DVD player and switch the audio over to it, just like when you go from the cd changer to the cassette or to the radio. why must i get rid of everything to put one thing, instead of adding that one thing to the whole package?

if there is no possible way to get it all working together, i think i prefer to use the metra kit and put the oem screen where the cd changer and tape player are and keep my compartment for storage...

JR electronics has had a bad wrap! Go to CarTronics for sure! Stay away from places like Senor Stereo and shops like that... Pay top $$ for the job to get done right....

Here is what I say to do...
Leave the Screen where it is and put the double din unit where the tape/cd changer unit is...looks good there....go to Nissan and buy a new matching center "brushed" aluminum center area and dremel it to fit. The metra dash kit does not match any year except for 04...its silver painted not the "brushed look" my .02...this is what i will do.
