I changed mine at 20K and it was filthy....

So you can't smell roadkill or bad exhaust anymore with that carbon filter? Real question...

Do you have a link? I don't remember seeing one plus I did a search and the only ones that came up were 2+ years old. Thanks for commenting though...

I'm at 40k and should have changed it by now, but I'll be turning it in four months from now, so to hell with it.

I changed mine at 15k. It wan't as bad, but still pretty nasty and I run my ac all the time and almost always closed loop. I don't think I'll wait that long next time.

YEah I was participating in the other thread and think i left off saying id take pix, which I never did and you have. My filter was in for 60,000 unchanged and basically looked like yours (except there really were no clean spots on it except a few lines), maybe mine was a little more filled. I seriously can't tell the difference aftre changing it...except after it was in i put my face to the air vent and thought it smelled like fresh filter. Its worth changing I guess, just because.

I always thought changing the in cabin filter was crazy b/c I drive a lot with the windows down so I figured I was getting road dust and smells in that way so I thought the filter was a sham by the dealerships to take money from me. But now after seeing this I guess I don't want my AC/Heat to be blowing bacteria at me while I'm driving. Wow.

LOL - I am going to start changing mine on the 10k. There not expensive and fairly easy to swap out. I did mine for the first time a couple months ago (28K) it was filthy...

Here's some links: These have some links to get them for under $15

Your owners manual tells you all about it, its behind the glove box. You gotta pop the two plastic tabs underneath the glove box to drop it down, then you'll see it.

I changed mine after like 32K miles or so. I was filled with crap. You can get them for like $9.00 at drivebywire.com or something like that. I would have to look for the link somewhere.

Kam. when you said you added carbon, how do you go about it. I always close the windows on the highway because of diesel sheet (BQE in Brooklyn) and put on my A/C with recirculate; it doesn't take the air from outside but then recirculates my farts...I don't know which one is worse.

LOL

I need this carbon filter KAM, tell me where to get it.

Owners manual is your friend. It states recommend changing your cabin air filter at 20K. I did mine at 18k and it didn't look too bad, but you also need to consider your driving environment. Dirty cabin filters have also been the cause of bad cabin smells when using the A/C or circ fans...

You have to push on the little insert thing that's inside the tab, or pull on the bottom of the tabs, just screw around with it for a minute or so and you'll get it!

I thought the same thing "Why replace it when my windows/sunroof are open all the time"......that's right, 34k miles later and it's the original. Guess what I'll be doing today?

At 35k mine looked just about the same maybe worse, I popped it out and dropped a new one in. From the looks of it, i'll be checking on that a little more often.

I bought it at homedepot i walked in there for something and saw carbon filters, they had a metal trim around the edge, so i went back to my car took the new filter that was in the trunk out of box, went back in and matched one that would lay right on top and fit.

Yeah no smells on the inside, even when i shat my self on recirc.

So just to confirm...there is enough room inside for both filters to fit? On what side of the normal air filter did you put the carbon one?

Well that's car care 101, the owners manual list recommended change intervals, your driving environment dictates when you should actually change it. Jsmith lives in Cali were the air is cleaner (so long as another state forest isn't burning down) thus he squeezed by that one, I'm originally from NYC and probably would have done it at 10K!!! On the other hand, my boy Ramberg also lives in NYC and drives back and forth to Miami and when I changed his filter at about 18K+, it still looked pretty good, but we still changed it...
