new wheels causing shimmy. suggesions please!
i just put 20" tsw mondellos on my '04. the car looks pretty sick now, but the shimmy went from barely noticable to unbearable. i just had an alignment 3 weeks ago when i lowered it. should i go for another alignment. the tires are decent. i put nitto 555's on it. anyone have any suggestions? i thought putting better tires on it would help but it has become really bad

Bring it back to the shop and ask them to re-do the balancing very carefully. It happened twice to me, after a tires balance&rotation, I noticed the shimmys the moment I hit the road. I just brought the car right back in and re-balancing fixed the issue. From then on I have to warn the shop beforehand.

I had the same problem when I bought my 18 bsa wheels.
I had the car aligned twice and nothing.
My local mechanic had to balance the wheels very carefully and even put the litte weight stickers inside and outside of the wheel to balance them to perfection.
No issues at all after that.

it could be the rims.....
I bought some rims for my car and the slots were drilled a little off balance....and after they showed me i could easily tell....so i brought them back.....not saying that is your problems but it is something you could check on

dam dood.... before this thread, i seriously thought it was because of the tourqe and horsepower my Max has.....
So when ever I punched it, my max would get excited and say "hell yeah, lets go!" then the tires would shimmy....
Now i know that it could be a tire issue or rim issue....

The stock rims are hubcentric. Is the hub on your aftermarket rims the same size as OEM. If they're not you can get adapters have the rim fit the hub.
Running non-hubcentric rims on a Maxima can have an effect on shimmy as well as tire imbalance.
