Skunk2 IM Spacer

Just trying to do some reading up on this. the G and Z guys have had good results with this so i thought about this mod for the max. the install [i think] wont be a problem. would the benefits [more or less] be the same. i talked to JoTech [local shop] and they said that you would prolly have to swap the IM from a g or z. ideas?

all i know is that a buddy of mine with an rsx had one of these spacers installed and had a 5hp gain...or so they say

Well! Looks like I have a clone. Good to know there's another 6th Gen in the area.

You need to come out to the car meet Monday nights on the corner of Preston and 121 in the Circuit City parking lot. Probaby approx. 600 cars out there!

Jotech is right becaue the spacer fits in between the upper and lower portions of the plenum. It's a totally different shape. Now I know someone installed a 350Z IM on to a 4th Gen, could possibly be made to work with ours.

allblackmax, you were the one with the header install @ their shop, right? i would love to see that in person. ive heard about the CC meets. i used to go but stopped because back in my honda days, at one of the meets in plano, some mexicans were doing some **** when i had my hood popped. cant trust anyone these days, thats why i am reluctant to go. i had my first turbo'd civic stolen from collin creek mall by 3 mexicans caught on tape when i worked at sears. i was really cautious about my 2nd one and when i turned 21, said **** it and sold it. and now, nissan power!

Yeah that's me. You should come out man. Frisco po-po is out there for crowd control. Plus, there's gonna be at least 4 or 5 Maxes out there and we stay close to our cars. I know what you mean though, I don't trust to walk away with my hood open either. I usually pop the hood, maybe rev the engine a couple times then shut it down. I'll be out there this Monday, come check us out.

Unless you have a Z33 IM, a spacer wont do anything.

I heard it was not likely to work as our intakes are different from the 350Z. I asked a couple years back. Maybe things are different now.

main thing is that it would absorb a little more heat and would equal COLDER air going through the manifold...cold=better

Phenolic spacer works differently than the Skunk2 piece.

Phenolic absorbs heat
Skunk2 for RWD VQ35 adds space to let more air into the front 2 cyls.

i would think it would dissapate more heat would equal COLDER air going through the manifold

"Cold" means cooler than fully heated air from not using a spacer. Its not cold like air conditioned air. For example, if the air going through the manifold without the spacer is 250 degrees, then the use of a spacer may decrease the temperature to 220 degrees. A 30 degree temperature results in about a 3 hp gain (1 hp for every 10 degrees).

There is a difference between the skunk2 plenum spacer and phenolic spacers(more like thermal gaskets).

There are a handful of members that have thermal gaskets for their FWD VQ35's. But no one will benefit from an actual spacer (as far as what the definition means, adding space) that has a FWD IM.

We may or may not benefit from thermal gaskets. The gains would probably be minimal and non noticeable in a dynoing situation. A TB coolant by-pass tube would probably do/have the same affect as thermal gaskets.

Thats why I am planning to insulate my fujita this summer or as soon as I find some reflective insulating material in a tape form.

Last night my IAT was 40*C, while my ECT was 85*C, parked.

The IAT is located in the MAF, so.. I highly doubt you'll be making much difference even with the thermal gaskets.
