Sub box near car PC?

Anyone have a carpc mounted in the trunk next to/near their sub box? Any adverse effects from the massive amounts of vibration produced from the sub? I'm in the process of building my carpc but don't want to leave out my sub from the equation, but in the same step don't want to destroy $600 worth of hardware for some boom

You shouldn't have any problems at all. I know a guy that's pushing 1000 watts with his pc in the trunk and no problems

How hard is this installation with the stock bose/cd changer in the dash? Will it get in the way? Do you have to remove that before moving the info screen to install it?

Good question, my stock HU was already out of there when I did mine. I would think not. It's just a matter of getting the wire down there. You might have to pull the HU out to get the plug down and around...

Bingo, you do have to remove the HU to gain access.

GO FOR IT. The pc was the best investment so far, Everyone that gets in the car is blown away by how much you can do with these things. I had the car at the dealership last week and all the mechanics were around my car checking everything out

I'm all over this one. Can't get any more geek like putting a PC in the car For you guys that have this already, is there any reason to go with say the
Xenarc 700TSV over say the Lilliput 7" or SP7 that mp3car.com sells? They both seem very similar but with a $100 price difference.

the Xenarc has auto flip so you can connect it to a backup camera, With the lilli you will need to do it manually. Xenarc is also brighter but it also cast more reflection (sometimes causing the image to be washed out)

I have the Xenarc and a rearview camera. The camera is wired into the reserse light, so when I place the car in the reserse, the image gets displayed on the screen...haven't noticed any image wash though.

Most people with the Xenarc say if they have a passenger in the rear seat with a light colored shirt the reflection on the screen would cause it to be unreadable. Maybe its just the placement in our cars since the screen is up high that you aren't seeing it, that's a good thing. I was thinking of changing screens to one with auto flip so I can take advantage of the backup camera

AutoFlip = It automatically switches inputs depending on the signal, so if you have it connected to a backup camera and wired correctly the image on the screen will switch to the camera when you put the car in reverse and flip the image so show up correctly rather that backwards.

I know I know, more questions.

I'm putting together the system now. Looking at the VIA EPIA EN15000G MiniITX board and sticking it in a SolidLogic VoomPC case. But it makes me wonder, does the VIA board have enough horsepower to do all i want it to do (MP3, dvd, xvid/wma/etc, GPS and XM)?

Also, what are software are you using for NAV? Iguidance?

I configured up the system with the above listed mobo and case, with 512MB of ram and an 80GB hdd and the M2-ATX power supply. It'll run about $600. Not too shabby. I can get a Phylon 7" LCD touchscreen for about $280. What i'm worried about is how much the local shops are going to charge me to install all this stuff. I figure its about a 2 hour job to move the main LCD down to the cubby in front of the shifter and install the new LCD touchscreen into the top slot. Then what another 1 or 2 to run all the power cables and whatnot? I want some input so i don't get ripped off when i go to them with this.

Thanks!! I'll take lots of pictures before/after install.

Sounds good. How much fabrication did it take to get the Xenarc to fit into the OEM display slot?

All I did was attach the LCD bezel to the backside of the center console with some JB Weld. I had plans to mold it in but decided to use JB Weld instead because I will be switching it out eventually

Man ain't this a *****? My shop that i've had work done in almost all my cars through the years is giving me a hard time about installing the LCD touchscreen because it can be used to view video while the car is in motion and that they can be sued if i wreck while watching a movie. I wish i was a bit better at DIY work or else i'd do it myself. If i do it i'm going to wind up with a half assed install. Stupid sue happy people ruin everything.

Come to Brooklyn and I will take you to a shop that doesn't mind if you kill yourself while watching a movie.

Write up a disclaimer stating that your car will be for entered in car shows only and that you will not be driving it on the road at all.

I wound up finding another local shop that didn't ask too many questions. They gave me an initial ballpark quote of $300-$400 to install the Lilli and move the stock LCD. That sounds a bit high, but the guy said he wouldn't know exactly how much work was invloved until he got the dash apart and had the Lilli in his hands. Hopefully it won't run me more then $150-200 once its all said and done.

Dam that's high. I say do it yourself like I did. I'm not an installer but if you take your time and visit mp3car.com for info you can do it yourself and save the money. Alot of people use jbweld to secure the screen to the bezel and it comes out fine.

I really would.. But me and DIY jobs just really really don't work out too well. I'm at a Network Engineer by trade so i'm great with my hands.. As long as they're connected to a keyboard

I think its quite high myself but after looking at everything about having to take apart the Lilli and all that, i can see it taking 2-3 hours to do properly. I just got a ship confirmation on the lilli so it'll be here Fri or so. I'll take it up to the shop and see what they think.

Trust me when i tell you that I am not an installer but I would much rather try it myself that way if anything does go wrong later I know I can get in there and fix it. Also, for what they are charging you can order an extra Lilli, or even better order the transreflective one.

Doing it yourself is half the fun

I agree. Breaking crap isn't Plus you're in Florida! I'm in Jersey. Its kinda cold up here. I'll tell ya what. My Lilli got delivered today. I'm goning to take it up the shop and see if i can't get a formal quote from the guy. If he goes up high again, i'll tell him to bugger off and i'll do it myself. I just better not hear any complaining when i start asking questions!!

Ok got the shop to agree it shouldn't be more then an hour or so worth of work.

Now the important questions for you guys with your setups in already.

1. Power for touchscreen. THe shop is planning on just wiring this to a switched 12v power source. I keep reading about people running the power lines back to the PC and fashioning a molex connector onto the end to power the touchscreen. Yes/No?

2. I keep reading on mp3car regarding everyones woes with USB devices not coming back online after hibernate. Any problems with this?

I think thats it for now.

Thanks!!

Hey Guys, I have the factory bose installed right now with no mods yet except for a sub and amp. I am interested in buying an all in one nav/dvd player with screen, and install it where the info screen is now, and then obviously move the info screen to the bottom. I dont want to remove the stock bose radio and cd player though, how would I be able to wire this nav unit in and still keep my stock cd player?

Not sure on this one, the nav/dvd player definitely won't fit up top. Carputer may be an option for you...

Has anyone mod a carputer to an 07 Max yet? I have been searching for while and still have not found one person that has?

I have a fully loaded 07 Max w/ Navi and have all the packages except the elite packages. ( I know y did i get a Navi...who knows I was anxious have one)...its my first new car....lol

Also , unmatched, ur setup looks pretty tite, it is def unreal on how used the original screen setup and the touch integrated...mad props.

Did u still have still full or partial use of the steering wheel buttons. I ask this because a) i wasn't sure if u mentioned this in ur setup b) i have a multimode and bluetooth buttons that are key to the car.

Also, if dunno if some one can answer this but is there a way to rig the bluetooth so that it can show like the phone # or the name of the person is calling via bluetooth when using the hands free.

I kno this is alot, but I have been wanting to do this for months....I have been saving up and still i am still saving (for while). This is one of my biggest investments i am going to make and I want to make sure it will or can be integrated b4 I drop 2-3G .

Thanks,

07 mod should not be that much different (if using the same setup). Does the 07 max have a trim package that does not include nav and such?

I have the stock HU and added the carputer, so my steering wheel controls work. While using the carputer, all I use the steering wheel controls for is volume. The powermate that is installed under the center armrest is used for track advancement, or I just use the touch screen.
BTW Thanks for the comments.

The 07 does offer a trim package is which is only offered on the SL not the SE, the navi is just an option, it all depends on what you really want. I kno that I am planning to keep my max 4 evr so got all the features I know i would use and would not reget afterwards. Y r u planning to get 07?

I have my touchscreen wired into my Carnetix P1900 power supply. I also changed the code on the screen so it turns on/off with the pc.
