Anyone know how to fix the noise from a vibrating rearview mirror?

My rearview mirror vibrates when I have music on and makes a noise loud enough to annoy the hell out of me. Anyone know how to fix the noise? I have no clue on how to go about fixing this.

I have the same noise, except mine happens without any music (just by engine/road vibration). To temporarily fix the problem, I keep adjusting the mirror slightly until it goes away. I took it to the dealer just before the 36K mile warranty expired, but they said that it was the bald tires causing the noise and that they really couldn't fix it.

If you do find a way to fix it, please let us know! I think this is the most annoying noise that I'm experiencing right now.

When my mirror is "cold" it cracks and cringles like crazy, so I just take it by both sides and press on it and it compresses a little bit and shuts up!

I have the same issue and it drives me crazy. The bald tire excuse is cr*p. I just replaced my tires due to the side wall issue and my mirror still rattles like crazy.

Ya, it's more like a squeak, but I get that too, and it only happens at cold start-ups in the morning and when turning at low speeds at cold start-up

I think that I am going to try to use a piece of dynamat to silence this mirror. I am thinking about cutting a piece and painting it black so it wont look to noticeable while on the mirror, and I am pretty sure that this will take care of the vibration.

Have you narrowed the location down ie.. is it the swivel, housing, mirror?

It appears to be the housing. If I use my hand to hold the back of the mirror, the noise goes away and I can feel the heavy vibration in my hand. I feel that using some dynamat will resolve this for me. Ill try it when I get some time.

Yeah, I'd agree that the entire mirror is vibrating... but I'm not sure how dynamat will help? Where would you place it?

Thanks!

I am going to place a strip of dynamat along the entire backside of the rearview mirror housing, the part that faces the windshield. Whenever I hold that part with my hand, the noise goes away. I think dynmat will tighten it up and deaden the noise.

I'm confused as to how placing dynamat on the back of the mirror will do anything to stop the rattle. I've noticed that if you press both sides of the mirror together the noise will go away for a while. I think it is just a crappy design that we are suffering w/ here. Does anyone know of an aftermarket replacement for this mirror, this mirror is also used in almost all Infinity’s of the same model year, wonder if the problem exists there or if they got the "good" ones

this is my first post... i had the same problem with the little plastic piece covering the wire from the headliner down to the rear view mirror... i used to work at an auto glass place and they have a clear two-sided tape that i put between the windshield and the wire/plastic piece... no more noise. any auto glass place would have something similar.

I just squeeze/adjust mine and it's fine for awhile.

And not to go OT, but does anyone else's rear center brake light rattle over bumps, or with loud music? It's been annoying me for the longest time. I did have the rear shelf buzzing problem, and that was fixed (somewhat) by the dealer. I resorted to stuffing black dress socks down between the shelf and back window. That worked for awhile, but now I think the rear brake light is what's rattling now. Blah.
