Noise when hitting bump

Everytime I hit a rising bump I hear a click sound from the front
driver side. Anyone had this problem before? Is my strut gone?

My car makes the same noise. I am replacing the front struts with a set of KYB's.

I have 25k miles on these struts. They are starting to get soft.
I was hoping to get at least 40-50k out of them.

same problem here -

mine are bad to the point where it's a grinding sound...it's worse the colder it is outside (i'm in florida, so it's pretty random every morning)

just turned over 22,000 miles, i've got a fresh drivers side axle waiting at the dealership, i just need to work up the nerve to let them keep my car all day.

i swear, they ALWAYS screw something up...scratch this, or scuff that ...

Yeah I know what you are talking about. I notice a small 'tap' from the front end when hitting a bump, It seems to me it occurs when the spring decompresses after a bump. Its nothing Id pay to fix unless it became worse. Is this a bad strut? I never thought so because the handling is same as it ever was, and this dosent even happen alot.

Yep it does that in our 03 Max and my old 97 did as well and sometimes in our G35.

So basically, nobody thinkis this tap indicates a bad strut? Just a bad, or badly placed something else maybe?

I get this noise frequently (I think from both sides), and if I push down on at least one of the sides (just over the wheel) I can hear a 'clicking' kind of sound. Also, when I get in the car sometimes I hear a clicking like sound coming from the front somewhere.

Before the symtoms got this bad (and while I was still under warranty), I asked the dealer if my struts were bad and they said 'no'). Does this sound like one or more of the struts are bad?

EDIT: Also, there are strange thud or popping noises that come the front when going over bumps. They don't always sound like the broken mattress sound people usually associate with struts. However, there is a certain dip in the road on the way to work that I have to hit at about 35 (I try to brake at least a little if traffic allows), and that always make a thud & broken mattress sound, but didn't know if it is just because I am hitting it at speed.

here also, I just noticed it a few days ago when going over speed bumps (slowly) I hear a squeking to somewhat grinding sound from the front of my max. I am seriously thinking about going to the dealer (maybe stuts going bad. only has 15k onner) Advice needed from loyal maxima owners

Alot of it has to do with the cold temps. Mine did it a little today. I think it might have hit 18 here today.

have the same issue, had both front struts replaced, then new tires, then new endlinks, although handling is better, ride smoother, the same consistent noise never went away!!, I drive in the city all day, and notice it more than anything, I have to baby it over every bump, pothole, R.R. tracks, its very annoying. Im going back to the dealer very soon. I originally addressed this problem at about 24,000 miles, now have 29,000. Warranty is running out!! P.S. everything has been covered thus far....

I have been troubled by what sounds to me like a 'clunking' noise from the drivers side front wheel well for months now. I just topped 30K miles on my '04. A while ago, the dealer did the 'recall replacement' of the struts, and it was a while after that I noticed the problem. I have had my car in for 3 routine alignments and Firestone has told me they see no problem with the suspension, and you'd think at least one of those times they'd want to try and sell me something to fix the 'problem' but nadda.

The next step is to return it to the dealer and tell them to find out where the noise is coming from and to fix it.

That noise is also bothering me as well. everytime I hit a bump I get a clunk clunk noise as you guys mentioned. I'm set on replacing the struts however if they're not strut related, I'm reluctant to do so..

I have this noise too, I am on my 3rd set of OEM struts at 24,500 miles. One thing I noticed is that when I hit the driveway bump without my brakes on I hear the strut noise and when I hit the same bump at the same speed with my brakes on- it is rock solid, no noise. Could the noise NOT be the strut and maybe the calipers, rotors or axles not being tight enough and that is what is really banging around? Otherwise the car handles great on the road, it is the sharp jolts to the car that make it unsteady.

The noise appears to be coming from the top of the strut in the hood area.
I noticed that whenever the strut compresses from coming up a dip or a bump on the road, the tapping noise occurs. I didn't hear it until 24k miles.

I had similar problems. Sometimes there was a continues clicking noise coming from the front.

Took it to dealer. At first they could not reproduce the sound. Eventually I helped them out with it. :-) They retorqued something and that fixed the noise.

Recently, there was cling-cling noise coming from somewhere under the car. The dealer repaired the heat shield for the exhaust.

All was covered under warranty.
