Looks like I'm lucky.
There were some threads on this topic back in 04 to the effect that if you play a self-burned CD that has a paper label pasted on the top of the CD -- that extra thickness will mess-up the unit.

Mine still occasionally skips...it skipped so bad when i got the car during the first winter I could barely listen to any cd's. They replaced it hwne i had like 10k on the car, it now only moderately has skipping problems in the cold, but its alot better than before, but not perfect..I can atlest listen to it in single digits whereas before it was a joke. The cd changer is flawed.

I love the Bose and it's sound, I'm just annoyed with the repetitive problems with the HU. I mean how many generations/years in the Maxima have had this issue. I seem to remember reading something about this being a common problem in former gens!

Tell me about it....that is the one thing I hated about my Maxima. Had the cd player replaced 2 times for excessive skipping due to cold weather, and I live in SoCal so it doesnt take much people! Glad it was covered under warranty, but it's a pain in the *** to have to take time to go to my dealer.

I've taken apart an 03 Pathfinder radio, an 03 and 04 350Z radio and a 97 Maxima radio. They all had problems with the CD player, some would not play CD's when cold, some had the "CD err" message and one the Maxima wouldn't eject the CD. One thing I noticed though was that the grease they use to lube the moving parts is thick and not good for cold climates or dusty areas as well as its prone to pick up dust and becomes black and ineffective after lots of use. If you want to get your factory radio fixed, a member in the 4th Gen section told me about the Factory Car Stereo Repair shop in Longwood, FL, their number is (407) 830-0777. I currently have my radio with them getting the changer fixed, their website is "www.carstereohelp.com/shipping.htm", hope this helps someone.

well my story is that one of my tweeter isnt working and Im pretty sure that its due to my stock cd player, yet Nissan wont honor my extended warranty for the fix because I added a subwoofer to my stock system. They are such a$$holes...

I recently bought a 04 maxima with bose cd changer, in last two weeks I have been noticing my left channel sound comes and goes but right channel stays ok, it even goes in and out if I hit a small bump on the road, but what makes it interesting is when playing the radio it doesn't do that. Is there a possiblity of anything being loose in the cd changer that can cause it?
