Removing dealer sticker/emblem

My new car has the dealer's name stickered on the back of the car. Does anyone know if this is easily removable? Or should I take it somewhere to have it removed? Would the dealership remove it per my request? Its not an actual emblem like "Ken Dixon", but just stickered on.

I wondered this too recently. After an extensive search on the web here is what I learned:

1. Heat up the area with a blow dryer

2. Remove the emblem with dental floss OR something that won't scratch your paint.

Good luck!

if you have a heat gun, just use that. After a few minutes the glue will melt and you can take it off. You can also try a hair dryer, will take longer though. Use some solvent to get the remaining glue off.

Edit: ^ what he said.

Oh, sorry. Perhaps I should read more thoroughly next time ;-) Generally, the stickers should come off with your thumb nail. Wipe with WD40 to get rid of the "goop" without hurting your paint. This I've done around 10 times without any problem. Save the former information for a tougher job in the future, but again, good luck!

some stickers are pesky and you might be better off heating them still. I used to work at a detailing shop and stickers often won't come off when you just try to peel them. Will only take an extra few minutes and ensures you do it right the first time.

Bug n Tar remover worked well for me, it literally worked within seconds and came all off with no marks.

I use to do work for this Ford dealer and the guys who prepped the cars did not have a clue, they would put the sticker on the rear door or trunk lid then wash the car

Depending how long the sticker has been on the car, your best bet is just park it in the sun and then test it I usually just ask the dealer beforehand to not put any dealer advertisements on the car, reallymakes the salesman go nuts but I enjoy it

On my previous Max ('04 SL Winter Frost), the salesman actually ASKED ME if I wanted him to remove the sticker!

I always have used a hairdryer and my fingernails to get them off. If you are REALLY REALLY careful, you can use a thin bladed screwdriver. I think a heat gun is too hot and risks scorching the paint. Clean up with goo gone works to remove remaining tape.

Heat gun/hair dryer/lighter, plastic razor blade, goo-gone, and wax. That is all you need

after removing the sticker, you may see a imprint left on your paint. Wash the area and wax. it will look good as new....

I used a heat gun for about 15 sec. then i was able to the sticker right off...

Don't have a heat gun, but I think I'm gonna take the hair dryer, dental floss/peeling off with my hands and then whipe clean with goo gone approach you guys have mentioned. Followed by a splash of wax and I should be good to go. I'm gonna take care of this next weekend and will let you know how it goes. Thanks for the tips.

I just did this "modification" last night. Cheapest and easiest mod that I've done.

When I ordered my max, I told the sales lady up-front that I would not take possession of if there were any dealer emblems on it! She didn't look too surprised, and said no problem. And that's the way I got it.

Years earlier I did the same with my chevy truck but when I did the walk around, I notice this huge arss dealer emblem. I pointed it out and the sales guy said they had a policy that all vehicles had to have a dealer emblem. I was like and I said I have a policy of no free advertising and pealed it off right there!

I take off the ads they put in the license plate frames and leave them there at the dealer.

same here, thankfully the dealer didn't apply any stickers so I just had to change the the license plate frames.

Free dealer advertisment comes with free car, I am paying for mine, so not thanks.

Have the dealer you got the car from remove the emblem/sticker for you. It's the least they can do after you buy a car from them.

You would probably get on their nerves and when you need service they may give you attitute, not that they would hesitate even if you didn't ask thou.

I followed the advice above.. heated up the sticker with a blow dryer and they peeled right off. A few letters left some goo behind, so I used Bug/Tar remover and it came right off. A nice wash and you would never know a sticker had ever been there. Thanks!
