27.9 MPG WoooHooo!!!
After some dirty looks from grandma and grandpa on the way home I finally did it. Gas is at 3.03 for premium in ALA, when is this BS gonna stop? Here's proof:

Im sorry if yall dont share my enthusiasm, but man this is so F'n righteous. I wonder if there's a way I can get my ECU changed so that I cant rev past 2500RPMs, or If the car can run with 3 spark plugs only(like an I3).

Over the weekend I did some highway driving and actually got the computer to read out just over 30 MPG (I think I peaked at 30.7). This was all highway driving with no stops, and cruising around 75 (normally the computer doesn't report this good of mileage when travelling this fast...).
Anyway, as soon as I got into town the MPG got killed.
Oh yeah, regular here is now $2.95, and so 93 is either $3.15 or $3.19... and summer just got here.

I have gotten 33.4 mpg Hwy only. I left Greenville, SC yesterday and drove to Bloomingdale, GA. My fuel economy is phenominal. I did get pictures from my camera, just can't upload. Batteries dead.

premium is about $3.15 - 3.20 here... so far on my current tank, my display says 27.x .. only used about 1/3 of the tank.. and that includes driving around town a lot.. in fact, I get better gas mileage driving around on intermediate roads than highway quite often.
until today, I was well over 28 mpg according to my computer.. we'll see what it really is when I fill it up

Check your fuel economy the real way. Reset your tripometer when you fill up and divide the mileage of a full tank by the amount it takes to fill up.

sdoejot - I hope you didn't REALLY run your tank so low you put in 19.3 gallons.
Are you aware your fuel pump is inside the fuel tank, and depends on having a few gallons of gas in there to keep from overheating? Ask your dealer what he charges for a new fuel pump. Installed. And if the failure was from overheating, it is customer abuse, and not covered by warranty.
Are you aware of the very expensive problems that can result if you actually run out of gas in this car? I mean in addition to a new catalytic converter? Again, if caused by running out of fuel, forgret warranty coverage.
There are very good reasons Nissan sets the fuel gauge and fuel alarms in this car to show empty with four or five gallons left. To enable you to 'live dangerously' is not one of them.
If you have a crush on your Nissan dealer's service advisor, and would like to spend a lot of time with her, then you are playing your cards very well. If that is not the case, I hope you just won the big lottery, because you are headed for some expensive lessons.
You remind me of me when I was your age. I finally learned from my mistakes. I hope you learn faster than I did.

Congrats to the OP! That is a kickin' feeling.

So not getting into the debate if the computer is right or not, I know that I'm getting reported MPG which is way less now than it used to be.
What kinds of tune ups can you do to increase your mileage??
The dealer informed me that the fuel filter is self cleaning, so it doesn't get replaced. The only other thing I can think of is spark plugs.
Any other tips would be appreciated.

FYI, A34's have a 20g tank.

There is good advice (as usual) in "light's" post, above. The tanks in the 6th gen Max are rated at 20 gallons. So 19.3 gallons is not a problem -- except for not providing sufficient cooling to the fuel pump submurged in the gas tank.
As for calculating MPG, the most accurate calculation is to divide the mileage driven since fill-up by the volume of gasoline bought at the next fill-up (as discussed in post #3). But there is one problem with this process -- getting the gas tank filled up to the exact same level each time you do this calculation. The auto-shut-off on each gas station pump cuts off at a different level in your tank (based on the settings in the nozzel on that gas pump line), so this is not as accurate a basis to use as it should be, unless you go the the exact same pump each time you fill up. Still, these calculations are reasonably accurate, if you attempt to fill the tank to the same level each time you fill-up.
I also acknowledge that each Max is slightly different, so what happens with your Max's computer calculation may not be the same as the next Max owner's experience. That being said, I've noted that over a number of fill-ups that the average of the computer MPGs and the manually calculated MPGs are very close to the same (within a few tenths of a mile per gallon). I continue to track MPG using both methods -- to be certain that the Max's computer is working correctly.
Regarding the post that says: "That computer works off of O2 sensor voltage, speed and MAFS voltage. It's easy to fool." This computer's calculation of MPG only uses the miles driven since this calculation was reset and the volume of gasoline consumed since reset (not certain where this volume gets measured, but to do this calculation, it has to be measured somewhere). The other items mentioned in this quote are not used for this calculation.
I would expect that you should get the best MPG when you are driving in top gear going between 45 and 55 mph at a constant speed (no stops). Driving faster than about 60 mph will begin to cut into mileage, and driving below about 40 mph will result in a lower gear being used. Stops really cut into mileage, so try to time your driving to minimize stops.
Finally: This post belongs in the Fluids and Lubes section of this site. Don't be surprised if it gets moved there.

Well all I gotta say is that I think the screen is accurate enough. After 1 week and 350 miles, it was only off by 1 tenth of a MPG. That 27.9 I got was over the 8 or 9 mile drive home from work.
And as far as the fuel keeping the pump from overheating, I knew about that a long time ago...pretty much every gasoline fueled car is built like that nowadays.

At any rate, that is a damn good MPG.
(Gas is starting to creep up there again, huh? Right now it's $3.50/gallon here on Long Island)

My wife just did a 1/2 tank city and 1/2 tank interstate....got 26.4 MPG. I think she may have been haulin *** on the interstate though. She usually gets 22/23 average in day to day driving. I've got the Fujita on it right now, but would be interested in any mods to give me (her) more HP and better MPG.
