You really need an open-top filter!

What is the diameter of the CAI tubing?

Ur right. Im going to look into that this weekend. That way, the air channels right into the opening of the air filter.

Update: Im thinking of putting my newfound fiberglassing skills to work and building what I really wanted - a sealed ram air box that draws air front my front factory (but opened up) scoop. i may actually be able to get slight pressurization at highway speeds. I can use my heat shiled as one side of the box and build a mold for the other sides and then make an opening in which the factory scoop would slip over and clamp down. Thoughts, suggestions, opinions?

Excellent write up of ram air:

When you mean sealed, are you saying the only air coming in would be from the stock intake scoop? ie......nothing from the fender well which I am sure is missing the stock resonator box. If so I don't know if you will get enough air, I like our stock scoop but, I've opened mine up too for testing purposes and I think the problem with it is the crimp before it gets into the engine bay (as it goes by the battery).

I thought about that crimp as well. I kind of unkinked my crimp with a heat gun to make it more round. I'll look into taking air from fenderwell, but the problem is that I am looking for pressurized air being rammed into the scoop, and I dont believe it is pressurized behind the fenderwell. I could draw air from under my splitter, but then the last thing I need is less ground clearance.

Nice job. Anyone know where to get a piece of foam that goes over the air intake? Mine's kinda chewed up

Yeah, we fuss about a tiny crimp in the exhaust, that one in the intake is much worse IMO. I think we would have to relocate the battery in the truck to really eliminate this problem. But I like the concept

Or, do what I did and get a smaller, lighter battery. I got a 28 lb battery to save about 15 lbs of weight which should also give me enough room to widen the crimp. I may even chop off the crimp and build the fiberglass box to a wider part of the scoop. Still working on the GTR Proto rear, but this will be my next project I think.

Well that looks pretty cool, but I dont think its the same idea. Im looking for a sealed system that may actually build pressure at highway speeds. That looks more like a neat looking open element filter.

[QUOTE=DeusExMaxima;4851607]I forgot to mention that a few weeks ago, I cut out the right side of the OEM air scoop which sits over the radiator. For some reason Nissan blocked the right side. I unblocked it so it allows more air into the air filter area.

Great Idea man Ill'e do this tonight!!!

Yeah I have to replace my foam for sure and paint the scoop like Graymax. I really dont know why Nissan blocked it off.
