Transmission fluid question.

Exactly how much fluid is in the tranny if the oil marks the tip of the dipstick? I went to check on the fluid today and noticed it it barely marks the tip. I did a triple check to see it wasn't just a fluke but sure enough it kept on marking the tip. I did the steps correctly as well. I think the Nissan dealership is trying to sabotage my car. Got the car at 26,100k 2 months ago and hasn't been change.

I have had mine since it's beginning, it now has 45,xxx miles on it. I haven't changed the fluid yet. We aren't supposed to for a while since it is a type of synthetic.

I'm not sure why your reading low. Might be worth taking it in and asking.

My ATF level was low since the day it rolled off the dealer lot.
I think some other org members also noticed that.
I just bought one qt and filled it to the proper level.

Hmm, i'll just do a flush and refill then. Got some matic k here. Anyone have a guide on how to flush? is it the same as the other gens? drain fluid from the bottom, then disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses from the fluid cooler, and i'm lost after that. Anyone care to fill in the rest?

Ok just did it. Didn't flush though. 3 3/4 quarts came out. Refill with same quantity. Measured again. Same measurement as before the change. Filled some more till i got to 5 quarts. Just at the tip of the 'OK' mark. The fluid that was inside was a little bit brownish but didn't smelled bad. I think the little amount that was inside caused that. Now i got pink color and no shift shock! Drives like new.

Alright ummm...where was the "drain plug?" I've looked on the trans and I couldn't see any sort of plug...so please let me know where that is so that I could do it myself!

It's in the bottom front. It's that big bolt right on the middle next to the cable.

and another one

and you're gonna need a 10mm allen wrench.

!!! NICE NICE, THANKS!

So did you actually feel a difference in shifting or do you "think" there is a difference? How long did you run the car before you drained it? Did you drop the pan and clean the filters or just the drain and fill?

If you only drain and refill, it could take up to 5 quarts; but it would take 14-15 quarts to fill if you do a full flush.

I don't feel that much of a bump now. Barely feel it now. car was off the whole night/day when i drained it. There's no pan on mines. Just a simple drain and refill.

I did it twice and only 3 quarts came out each time (engine warm after 10 minute drive). that's the amount a few of people here got. I checked the stick and the level is fine. The shift shock is still there, nothing change..well except it gets worse, I feel like the trans get jumpier.

I had my car on a lift, and drained almost 5 quarts. If you had it on a jack, less fluid would come out.

Do you need to open up both drain plugs or either one is good enough?

I plan on doing this right after cruising for a good hour or so...just so that the fluid is REALLY warm and thin, so that more can come out

Anyone think that this is a bad idea to only do a drain and fill?.........

I think it's a better idea than a full flush. You can get more fliud out if the either level the car or raise the back a little. Check the fluid level before hand to see if you need to put more fliud than you drained.
