The New Max
LOL. I really dislike the shady setup at consumer reports. I've seen them trying to uphold their rep while simultaneously and intentionally trying to create sensationalism against particular vehicle models just to sell magazines. Oh well, I'm not too interested in the max looking like a bimmer, but if they pull off a mix of 5.5gen + 6.5gen + CLS then they definately have me interested. Also RWD sound suspiciously like they're going to be using a fat FM platform like the M. I just pray they stop raising the weight. I always had some mild disdain for the weight increase when they went to the 6th gen, but understand it was necessary to impliment the IRS.

...just a thought.

that sounds just as right as it is fair. I've also read like the info mentioned already, that there will be 2 options available. the 18wheeler
i mean deasel, and a VQ version. kinda like VW has the turbo deasel and non turbo version. but thats another car. anyway i can see it being a bit larger but it aint no secret that the power is going to be needed to move all of that body
kencapel - Yes, the diesel option is firm. Nissan officially announced it three or four months ago, and said it would probably 'arrive' in 2010. They emphasized that it would be unlike the diesels we have known. It will be quiet, smooth-running, powerful and smokeless.

Those disparaging Consumer Reports need to realize that mag is written for folks who consider an automobile to be strictly a means of getting from point 'A' to point 'B'. If we read it in that context, it can be informative.
As to the meeting, it was very likely attended by far more press than just Consumer Reports folks, so we could be hearing a more detailed description of Nissan's plans in auto mags pretty soon. It is very probable that many things about the 7th generation Maxima have not yet been absolutely finalized.

And I read this sentence (below) three times and still can't make heads or tails of it. Anyone who can translate it to English please?
its will posting out lower numbers then its 3.7L counter-part in the infinitis. ie ex infiniti g37 marked at 330 HP...nissan maxima 3.7L ( > 330 hp) however chances are still putting 300+ hp.

desmo dude - I was not able to easily decipher that passage either.
Fortunately, I worked many years in military intelligence 'way beck when', then was recalled to active duty during the Cuban missle crisis because of my dual MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) codes denoting 'image interpreter' (analyzing radar, irfra-red and doppler imagery) and decoding analyst.
After running the passage in question through a special decoder that MI5 (British Intelligence) had managed to 'obtain' from a Russian spy, it seems that passage was a carefully coded message conveying the opinion that if the VQ37 engine is used in the 7th generation Maxima, it will be slightly detuned from the 330HP version appearing in some Infinitis, but will still probably be over 300HP.
Now that I have revealed heavily classified and closely guarded military information (or at least highly proprietary corporate data) to you, I am now required to kill you. Nothing personal; just standard operating procedure.

This was the one commercial that must have embedded itself into my psyche, because years later I got my 03, then, when discussing the best commercials ever to a friend, I pulled this one up(mostly because my dad was totally grossed out by the Pigeons shooting up the wedding) and i went "HOLY #@&%! That was a Maxima the whole time!?!?" So, nissan totally pwns me.
then, I saw this commercial, and It's one of my faves too;

I hope that Nissan engineers and Marketing peeps hang out on here in secret, because i wanna see badass commercials like these all over again. I'm totally tired of some of even the fastest cars having commercials boring as sin. Remember the C6 Corvette commercials? cmmon! I like reliving dreams and "Magic carpet ride" but damn I'm falling asleep here! I'm prolly gonna forget those commercials but still remember ones for a 4-door sedan. that's sad isn't it?

The VQ37 Z is rumoured to have 350HP which means the G37's could get a little bump in power too, so there's plenty of room for the Maxima. And no RWD for 7th gen...
world builds says that they started building them on july first of this year, but dont quote me on that; they may not be on schedule. but that is what they were shooting for, as far as i know. they stopped making the 6th gen on june 30th of this year. i dont know if they are going to release any special editions of the 2007 to keep its equity up or what, but if the next gen is not a 2008 model, its definitely a 2009.
i just reread the chart, and it is saying FF-L platform, D- Class just like the current gen.
remember, nissan went bankrupt and the french company renault bought them...for the better, i think, for the last 10 years. but im curious to see how things fair out in the near future...like myself, i see a lot of the sports minded fans buying a new altima, and the more luxury minded folks buying the maxima, as it is becoming nissan's cadillac, if i may.

Alex - yes, they started building the 'new' Maxima July 1st. And the last '07 has been built.
But the reason they were able to stop building the '07 June 30 and begin building the '08 the very next day (July 1st) is because there is NO CHANGE between the '07 and '08 Maximas, other than the model year on the sticker. No earthly reason to change anything for a model year ('08) that will probably only be produced around seven or eight months before it is replaced by a totally different design (the 7th gen '09).
When Nissan does change the Smyrna production line from 6th gen to 7th gen, probably in January or February, the line will be down for several weeks, as everything on the car will be totally different. I expect to see the first '09 at dealers in either March or April; May at the latest.
