Squealing noise...

Maxima.org Folks,

Just left Fort Carson, CO to Fort Sam Houston, TX on a permanent change of station with the military. I noticed that when I start my car I get a low squealing noise now...but goes away when the car warms up. Is this a sign of a problem? Just curious as I keep my Max in tip top shape. Thanks for any input.

Jimbo

Yeap it's a cracked belt. Mines used to do that but stopped after i changed it. omg i remember changing the belt on my 96. It was a pain. but when i changed it on my 04 it was a dream. Just get under the pass side and the idler pulley is literary right infront of your face.

Hmmm...I'll have to inspect it closer...maybe it cracked on the way down from Colorado. The car does have 27K on it. When is a normal belt change? Is it that easy to change? Mine is an 05 Max. Problem is I don't have any tools. Being in transition sucks...but as soon as my house sells in Colorado, then I'll move the family down...then I'll have the tools. I probably have to go to the dealership...thanks for the info...

changed it at 27k last month. An offset wrench will do wonders for that idle lock nut and a extender for the top idle adjuster. Takes about 20 mins to do. I would also take off the engine cover from the pass side as it provides easier access. Don't even gotta get under it.
