Altima Start button install
#42
The stage 3 unit doesn't even exist and won't for a while. There isn't much point in talking about it in this thread.
The 'stage 2' stuff - adding a pushbutton to work in conjuction with the existing key is something that could actually be done right now.
People have been putting the S2K buttons in cars for years - the Altima button is just an extension of that.

The altima button has the three status LEDs on it (On, Acc, and Lock). It also has a nice back light to it.
The Altima button is labeled as a Start/Stop button, where ther S2K button is labeled as Engine Start. I'm not sure if the S2K button lights up at all.
The S2K button is red and, in my opinion, ugly. The Altima button is beautiful.
Another car that I would like to get a pushbutton out of is the new Mazda6. It's got a really nice looking button.

If the idea to bypass the insertion of key was to work it would proly make remote start incompatibile.
Other than that its a great mod with COOLNESS factor of 10 (scale 1-10). Good job Deus (and everybody) for pushing the envelope.

years ago cars had to have push button starts. then an engineer came along and said HEY why don't we build it into the key turning mechanism thinga ma jiggy. this is a step BACKWARDS. how do you all not realize that? the ONLY possible way this would be cool if you adapted it so they key could stay in your pocket aka the new nissans.

The network cable is only there for convenience. The pushbutton requires 8 small guage wires. I already have the tooling required for RJ45 connectors, and cat5 cable is affordable, so it was a logical choice! There is absolutely no ethernet capabilities here though.

I work IT/Network field for a living so that was my joke. hehe I am sold, once this is completed.

I agree with everyone that this mod looks great, but I've always wondered about installing one of these switches in a hidden yet easily accessable location as a security measure. Even if someone had your key they wouldn't be able to start the car without locating it, and since thje max normally doesnt come with it no one would even look for it.

Here are even more creative ideas for shift **** locations. Here is the shift **** from a Mercedes Benz/McClaren F1. You flip a small lid, revealing the START button. HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!!
Of course the mother load of all START button recently sold for $81,000 at auction. Can anyone guess what it is? Clue: Its over 40 years old and really famous (think movies). Answer is at bottom of thread.
And of course I came across this combination IGNITION/START button set up on ebay. I think it would look great in my racing-oriented car:
And the famous shift **** answer is . . . . .. .
The shift **** from the James Bond Aston Martin that had the ejector button in it!!! Ok so it isnt a start button, big deal!!!

Wyche89: Its like any other mod. Why get different rims when the OEM rims work just fine? Why get a spoiler when they dont really work until you're going 140 mph? Why get a different shift **** when the OEM one works? Why do people get Lambo or scissor doors when the only time you see them is when you get out of the car? The answer is the same to all those questions as is the answer to your question: Because it looks really good and its a style too. There is a possibility of a functioning Start control that precludes the use of a key. But, it will be very expensive and very invasive. Personally, I dont feel the need for keyless entry. I like the look of the start button.

how about those of us who have the intelligent key maxima. I don't put in a key unless my key fob is dead which is just a hidden slot in the switch I turn to start the car. Could the Altima's push start button just replace the switch?

To point: this is an aesthetic mod, not a functional mod. No different than doing any other aesthetic mod. I'll be honest, even with myself being a 25 year old [man] lol, I would still enjoy sitting in a car and watching someone hit a start button. I'd even use it if I was all alone...something about the feel of pushing a button....

**RARE 4/4 MAESTRO GLIGA 'RELIEF WOOD CARVING' CELLO
Which, although I am now considering buying, has nothing to do with anything at all.
Do you spend time purchasing Cello's in your spare time?

to me what might make sense to cheapen your installs would be to use a remote start that uses the activation input of the start button. I have a start button installed in my 4th gen Maxima to circumvent a faulty ignition switch. You can do every thing from the key fob and retain most factory functionality. I still have to use the key to unlock the column but it nice for security. I think that completely keyless would be a sweet but may become a bit intensive.
