operating auto lights

Hello everyone, I'm finally able to post threads and wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I've been reading through the threads for 3 months now and am now a proud owner of a beautiful smoked gray 05 max se fully loaded wit every option but the navigation. I had a few questions I hope someone out there would be able to answer for me.......

1. How long does it usually take for the lights to turn off when in auto mode? (i.e., entering a tunnel and exiting? they dont seem to turn off by themselves)

2. Im confused on the sensitivity of the auto lights cutting on by themselves.
I set it to the least sensitivity, which is 1, but they seem to still cut on a little early,
or is level 1 the most sensitive level and level 4 the least sensitive???

Thanks in advance.....I'll post some pics up soon

Welcome Smackaslide! Let me see if I can help you out a bit.

1. Mine also seem to vary times for shut off when in the auto mode. If you go into settings, and scroll through your choices, you should come across 'Auto on/off' options. It allows you to set your time. I believe the increments are 30-40-60 seconds after car is off.

2. Im a little confused by your question, it could very well be because I haven't had coffee lately!

Check out www.6thgenmaxima.org also. Great group of people over there also. Many of us frequent both sites.

Hello, too.

1. Like Swee suggested, turn the car to on, but don't start and you can get to that menu.

2. #1 is the least sensitive setting for auto headlights.

Good thing you didn't start your message title with "Please" because I would certainly suspect you were looking for some "sympathy" (hopefully not so obscure R&R reference).

You can also set the lights to go off immediately (upon closing the door). These are how mine are set.

he's talking about the headlights. When it's on auto, turn that setting to off and they turn off when you close the door.

In the sticky as well as the links, everyone is talking about a "settings" button. I could not find any such button in my 07 max which does not have navi. Is that button present only in cars with navi?

i dont have nav. i use the "joystick". there should be a button right next to it.

ur salesman didnt show it to u? it was the only thing he did for me, realizing i knew everything else about the car (teaching him some of the finer points) thanks to the org.

My salesman was a moron in the true sense of the term. He reported the wrong extended warranty and price to Nissan after I purchased the car and I had to run around like crazy to fix that. I don't think he even knows the word "setting", forget about its button.

Anyway, I will check right now.

I did check but didn't find any. I am assuming you are talking about the joystick that is used to control the side mirror positions and is located on the left and bottom of the dashboard. One side of the joystick are the buttons for VDC, side mirror retracting, and rear sonar. On the other side is the instrument brightness control.

There is another joystick just below the navigation screen in the middle of the dash. This joystick is present only if navi is installed. I do not have that since I don't have navi. Beside this joystick is a "setting" button which I don't have either. Maybe you are talking about it. I am surprised how you can have it without the navi.

What is the function of your joystick and where is it located?

I don't think '07's have the joystick. I think it's more like the dial that is in the Infiniti M series.

I could not find out any way to access the settings in a 07 maxima. I went through the manual but it does not say anything for cars without navi. It however does say how to work out the settings for cars with navi. From this, I am assuming there is no way to access the settings in a 07 maxima without navi.

But that is so weird, especially because the 04-06 maximas seem to have it

Just so Im on the same page...least sensitive means that it comes on quicker, ie when its starting to get dark or does that mean that it has to be dark like 2AM?

I didn't realize you had the 07. you have a completely different layout. check with your dealer, or some other 07 owner chime in.

looking at the 07 manual, non-nav owners got jipped. you probably have to get the dealer to make changes. I would have them show me and report back here.

Thanks to all for welcoming me and trying to help me out.

I'm not having problems with setting the headlamps to off through the settings, i was confused on the sensitivity level of the lights when they cut on. I basically want them to come on as late as possible

And im still trying to figure out how to post pics up, i will post soon

not too smart, i read somewhere that these are also used when you have your ac running on auto. Sunny weather will make your ac run stronger to accommodate for higher temp.

As to the question of how long they take to turn off after auto turn on (tunnels and such). I was under the impression since they warn that turning the lights on and off too quickly could damage the bulbs and reduce the life of the HID's, the car waited longer before turning them off in the auto setting. Only thing I could think of. Now before I go into a tunnel or an underpass it's second nature to quickly look at the switch and make sure it's set to off instead of auto.

Personally I switch them to on manually... The auto setting was not lighting them when I wanted it to, plus it always turned them on in my garage when leaving home or arriving, just for a few seconds. Also when in traffic under a tree or something...

And then, I want to show off my quad xenon setup so I sometimes turn them on during the day, too.
