It's called a rev limiter. . . . . . The tachometer is off by a small margin. If you tapped the RPM signal directly, or monitored RPM via Consult II, you would not see 7000, more like 6550.

You might not want to do that...... At least in neutral.

What i mean is if you kept youre foot press on gas flooring it youre RMP should stay on HIGH RMP right...... but mines if it hits the red part 7000 RPM it goes down to like 6500RPM and continue to go up and once hit the red part 7000RPM goes down again ..... thats normal?

Could not agree more. It is not a good idea to rev an engine so hard with no load on the engine.

As Nismo asked: "Do you hate your VQ?" Because what you are doing to it certainly makes it look like you do. It's OK to take your engine to Red Line -- but not in neutral. Let the engine do something while going to Red Line !

This is the first time in 58 years of driving I have ever heard of anyone taking any vehicle to the redline IN NEUTRAL! It is so obvious in this situation that, had the limiter not been there, the revs would have continued to climb, probably until the engine self-destructed. Maybe Nissan needs to require that prospective purchasers be required to pass a pre-K test before being allowed to purchase a Maxima.

Just another excellent example of why I decided years ago that I would call a taxi every day before I would ever buy a used car again. You just never ever know . . .

I guess maybe I love the VQ a little too much. Just because I over-baby mine should not mean all Maxima drivers have to do the same. I simply recalled how very fast my engine seemed to be running when a service tech revved it up to around 5000 in neutral. I may be wrong, but I feel it is probably better to have a load on the engine when running at very high rpms.

But I am off-base to put cars above people. Even if the car is a Maxima.

Still revs more than yours . And I know what particular MIL it is, so I know it is not critical at this point.
