Damn A/C not working...$1,200 to fix hoses??

My 04 only has 38K miles on it, freon is leaking out from the A/C hose fittings where the fittings and hoses meet. I can not believe 1,200 to replace the hoses. Has anyone else experienced A/C leaks? Sucks the warranty is expired. If I run the A/C with the leak, I am risking ruining the A/C compressor. That is $$$$$ also! Anyone have any idea? With the shimmy issue that never got fixed and now the A/C out 2K after the warranty is over....thinking about cutting my losses and looking into something else.

Not to mention the front right strut is giving me the popping noise over small bumps....guess they are getting ready to go as well.

the lower pressure hose is usually the culprit. The part is not $1200 so I am wondering what is. Can you be more specific.

Well I had an A/C leak @ 54k, the reason was a hose had a hole. Without the service contract it would have been close to $300. I think the dealer is lying $1200 for a hose? No way!!! But as for all the other problems sorry dude. I've had zero problems(well besides the hose). You just got a lemon; trust me it can be worst. I had a 2001 Grand Am with 22k on it with no wrecks and in one year I had the motor replaced, the A/C compressor replaced, shocks went out, and cv joint was cracked. So like I said it can get worse.....

Several of us had the same leak in the low pressure hose. It is total BS for a relatively new car to have this kind of issue. I'd recommend finding a non-dealer repair facility so you don't get screwed. I got mine done for ~$300 total including labor, recharge, etc. As you already said, don't let it go too long or you could hurt the compressor.

compressor shouldn't run without pressure in the system so really the only trouble you can cause by leaving it alone is that the system is open to the air (and therefore moisture) and very slight assuming it's a pinhole leak

. I had the same thing happened on my other vehicle at 48k miles. Dealer wanted over 1,500. Instead took the car to a non-dealer place and they charged me about 400 bucks. 10k miles later have had no other issues.

If I was you I would call the Nissan hot line and complain. You are only 2,000 miles over the warranty. You have nothing to lose if you try.

I had a similar problem. I took it to the little shop in town that does all of my tire work, and turns out they had an ac guy. Only cost me $350 total - first they recharged and put dye in it and found the leak a few days later. Then the part was only $150 or so and the labor was about $100. The other $100 was the charge to fill it up the first time (they didn't even charge me to refill it after the repair). Anyway, long story short, check with some smaller shops. They don't call it the Stealership for nothing!

I don't know where you live but if you live in the tri-date area I have places where you can work done and not get stiffed. Good luck

Well, for now I said the heck with it. I have a recharge kit I used for another car I got rid of. I got myself a can of R-134A, recharged it on the upper low pressure line, then added some leak sealer, let it run for 15 min to let the sealer work. So far, blowing ice cold. Worse comes to worse, I am out 15 bucks and can add the R-134 as needed until I get an independent A/C mechanic to work it out. The part consists of 3 seperate hoses, one supposidly has a TSB that I have yet to find that 2 of the hoses are now one part now so if one goes out, you have to buy the other. The leak is on the brass fitting where the hose meets the fitting. Hopefully the sealer works. It is so crazy that a few hoses (granted high pressure hoses) cost so much. I would have had the old ones cut and re-fitted, but no length to cut them. At the same time I recharged my buddies Caddilac who was in the same boat. Really, 60-70 bucks to add freon is a joke. Pretty simple process. Also, it is idiot proof, no way the fitting for the charging hose will work with the bigger high pressure input. Just keep it in the blue and feel the can. Will keep you updated if it leaks again. At least this gives me some time to save some money if it does leak again to find a better deal.

On my 1998 pontiac bonneville I had it got out 2 times. Each time it got a hole where the fitting was. Twice I replaced it with gm and then finally went with aftermarket.

Well, worse comes to worse, I was looking at this. Only thing is they ship to an A/C mechanic. Anyone else know anything about this stuff?

Guess it depends where the leak is, with mine it was in the fitting which was aluminum and just kept craking. If its in the hose I guess it would seal it.

My leak was in the hose very near the upper metal fitting. I tried the stop leak stuff and it did not work. I agree that the stop leak stuff probably won't work if the leak is around the metal area.

Well, out here in Colorado, if your system is leaking, they will not recharge it. They do not offer a sealer as an alternative. I have the alternative, worth a try at least I can say I did it. Now, if the leak does not seal, than at least it buys me time to order the parts at military discount and have them installed. I still say 7 hour install time is total BS. You can replace a built engine in that time.
