Microphone with Blue Tooth
When I talk on the cell phone via Blue Tooth most people tell me that I sound far away, do others hear this complaint meaning that the mic just sucks -or- does my microphone need replaced.
Thanks

Oh yes, it is the built in microphone. I was going to take it the dealer, but if they all suck and that is just the way it is, I don't want to waste my time getting it replaced.
Thanks for the reply.

I have the same problem. I think all the mics are like that though. Since I'm trying to have a normal conversation.... the caller keeps saying WHAT? WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU. I end up yelling or screaming back. So, I'm figuring its just the mic.
The problem is the mike should be located on the sunvisor, now it is too far away from your face. I am in process of removing the mike/lamp assembly, and see if I can extend the mike wires (by splicing) to attach it to the sun visor. The sun visor would have to be in the down position.
Let me start with i have an '04 SE
I was taking apart my reading lamps the other day and noticed the little slit in between the reading lamps. First thoughts were "WTF is that for" and then remembered when i moved my display screen down in front of the shifter i noticed the phone icon on the screen and all the other supported bluetooth phone information.
So long story short, is the hardware all complete in 04's for the BT setup? Everything appears to be in place, just no way to use it (no steering wheel button).

I don't have this in my '04 but I agree with nss that it should have been installed in the visor. This way your voice wou;d go directly into the mike. This could have been done without pulling down the visor. I use a bluetooth ear piece when driving and have had no problem with it. If I was you I would go to the dealer and complain.
Yeah, I have an '06 with Bluetooth also. The system itself is decent, but I get comments about sounding far away, too. I found that if you look forward while driving and speaking clearly it evens out. My wife stopped using it for a while bc she felt like nobody could hear her. I pointed out that she was speaking at the speaker, not the mic (wives...ha!).
Granted, it's probably not the best mic, but it's better than trying to hold a phone to your ear or buying a gaymo Spock headset. Like tehaviator said, if you speak normally it works fine.

Finally got around to moving the microphone to the sun visor. WHAT A DIFFERENCE IN SOUND QUALITY! The steps were:
1) The mike is located underneath the roof switch cover. Open the sunglassholder, remove the screw, the cover drops down, only to be held by 4 plastic push pins. You will have to pull slowly but strongly each corner, to remove the plate. Two of my pins broke, the nissan dealer just gave me two others, however, as you will see later, never used them again.
2) The mike slides out of a plastic holder, and is attached by 3" cable to a connector, which is easily pulled off from the matching connector. Before continuing, I found the microphone/cable is Nissan Part#28336ET000, $50 in Canada, just in case I screwed up. Note the mike is hard wired to a small 1/2" square circuit board, probably the noise filter.
3) I cut the cable in half, and spliced/soldered about 1ft of bell 4 wire cable, you need 3 of the wires.
4) The mike is held in a plastic box, One side easily comes off to make it less bulky.
5) Then, reattached the mike connector to the connector in the switch box, replaced the switch cover with ONLY the screw, the wire is squeezed just a little between the switch cover and the roof liner, no problem. Later, I may make a cutout. I have a sunvisor paper holder, etc, which attaches to the visor with velcro wrap around straps. I ran the cable under the straps, attached the wire with wire wraps. The mike is positioned on the left side of the visor. I do have to bring down the visor for maximum performance, but WOW, what a difference. Next week I will try to post some pics.
