^^ exactly, the manufacturer has alot more money than we do. Obviously we have a demand for the product, and i dont blame ppl for not shelling over 600 bucks without even seeing the product. If they have a quility good looking product it will sell, but if they make a crap product and ppl are out their 600 its a much harder blow on the individual than the company.

Actually why don't they make 1, test fit it on a Max and then show us. Now they have minimum loss then can start taking deposits on a product we can actually see...

Look at this hood. This is a Bugatti Veyron Pur Sang - a limited edition (5 made) car and what is special about it is that it HAS NO PAINT!!! Some smart guy requested that the car's natural aluminum and carbon fiber be unpainted and polished. Bugatti liked it so much they made 4 more. This is the end result:

Now THATS a hood!!!

Chern, you must know why... the 1st hood is the most expensive to make. Every hood once the mold is made is much cheaper but they spread the high initial cost over each of the following hoods or else it would be cost prohibitive.

To make the 1st hood probably costs them $1,500 to $2,000 in labor and materials. Every hood there after? Probably < $200. The $400 'profit' is a partly to fund the 1st hood and partly profit.

Even if they get an order for 10, they will still have to make one first (the test fit hood), they need to focus on the end game and the overall profit and not make customers (and I will be one) foot the upfront bill for the initial prototype. That is not the way good business is done in my opinion and I know the people developing the new rear tail lights for the 6th Gens are not asking for up front deposits and they are making a lot (over 50 sets at about 4 bills a set).

As far as I'm concerned if I help foot the bill for the first one, does that make me a stockholder for the rest that I know they will sell (probably not, they keep 100% of the profits). If they fail, do I get a refund??? (or is it my loss now and the company loses nothing because we paid for the prototype!!!) if so, whats the difference in who fronts the initial bill for the first...

Show me a product and I will buy, bottom line...

Therein lies the problem. You (we) are dealing with a company with little faith in our 'market'. They don't believe enough in our market to take the plunge and invest the money up front. They want that 'guarantee' of our deposit.

i can't believe a large company that supplies many other vehicle owners with carbon fiber parts, won't INVEST 2 grand into an intial design/product, and expects customers to fork over the money, so that not only does the company not have any reason to provide a superb quility product, but they make a profit on top of that. Business is all about risk/reward, i wish i could go start a business and have customers fork over money for non exisitng product, make a profit, and have zero risk whatsoever. If thats how it worked, everyone would own a business, i mean thats free money.

well said. If I got 50 people to hand over 250 bucks chances are I too can outsource it to somebody and sell the product without any out of pocket expenses/investment and ton of profit.

forking over money for non existing product is like going into business venture. the company should provide stocks in exchange. You don't see anybody forking over money for AIDS defeating pills.

as the saying goes..."Build it and they will come"

working out the details with extreme dimensions, (carbon creations), same guys who are doing the front bumper for me, you guys better not back up or I'll be broke for a while, in order for me to be able to do this I had to put the rear bumper project aside for now, I see more people are interested on this so I'll take this project instead.

Hey Max2 - but this won't take as long as the LED tail-lights, right?
