Headlight paint mod
Ok I know there are some posts on this already but no where can I find an explaination on how you get the headlight covers off, I know you have to put them in the oven but I am afraid of melting the whole housing. Can anyone give a more detailed explaination on doing this?

lol, ok that i found funny....
but um, i'd help if you knew how myself.
search the forums for "headlight removal" maybe that'd help or check the stickies, as far as i know almost every thing's covered - good luck

you can take the headlights out..remove the bulbs and the ballast..you have to open a screw on the ballast to remove the wire..and throw the headlights in the oven at ~220 degrees or so. it will not melt them..afterwards take it out while holding it with gloves or such (itll be HOT) pry open the headlight..it will be a little difficult1st time..but its very hard to crack them as long as its hot..plastic just bends and can be bent back. do what ever you want while inside..make sure paint is dry...put the lens back on the headlight (make sure there are no fingerprints inside the headlights or on the inside of the headlight lens!!!! it will bother the hell out of you later!!) and just press it on as good as you can (it wont go on all the way until you bake it) put it back in the oven again (both bakes about 25 mins or so) and as soon as it comes out use pliers or vice grips to seal the headlight again as tight as you can (you may even want to buy some more sealant to place to be sure of tight seal) you can buy it at auto stores..not sure exactly what its called but press them together tightly. id place a few vicegrips on here and there until they cool again. than replace the ballast..make sure you put the wire back in and the screw..replace bulbs (dont touch the glass bulb on the hid or foglight) im sure you know that and your done!!

Here's a link to when I did mine. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=540448
(no need for pliers or vise grips) Just bake on 220 for 10 mins, start to pry apart with fingers, put in another 10 mins if it didn't work the first time. 10 mins more if needed. Paint the inside let it dry. then put the painted piece in the oven by itself for about 20 mins, makes sure it is dry before you put it back in and bake.
Good luck and make sure you don't have dust or fingerprints on the inside when it goes back together

You don't have to bake them, you can use a tile heat gun and work it along the gasket. Heat up a section then slowly pry apart with a flat tip screwdriver, just keep it working around slowly, that's what customlightz.com did to mine and it worked great!!!
