horrible gas mileage..o gee thanks
You just made me feel alot better, even if it only improves a few miles i'll be happy. I drove my SUV into the nissan dealer asking for a car with a little better gas mileage, then i get worse
. Hope your right!

Cheer up... mine was worse than that out of the showroom... but steadily climbed until about 12k. Now I'm averaging ~22mpg on my suburban/city commute (all surface streets, no highway) and my last two interstate trips (65-70MPH) were both ~28mpg.
DivewJason,
If the misfiring of sparkplug would not show on computer, is it a good idea to change them then @ 95K. The car is running heavy (like always on low gear) and I am only getting 18-19 mpg.

OOPS SORRY I GUESS IT'S EASIER THAN I THOUGHT. CURIOUSITY KILLS THE PAT, SO I HAD TO LOOK IN THE SERVICE MANUAL. JUST REMOVE THE BACK SEAT AND DEPRESSURIZE THE FUEL TANK AND LINES BEFORE REMOVING. HERE IS A PIC. LOCATED RIGHT UNDER THE CARPET UNDER THE BACK SEAT.
For anyone who is trying to improve gas milage I suggest a CAI because i went from 13-15 on avg in the city to almost 17-18 and that was just when i put on a short ram I just got a fujita CAI and im figuring its gona help a little more or i pray it does cuz gas prices are killing. Now I have an 05 so that paticular one doesnt have cvt which i wish it would because I was told at the dealership that makes a very big differece. right now just by checking my tires and running full mobile one full synthetic oil and premium gas with the air filter i get about avg 17 mpg and i have a HEAVY right foot i normaly get to 3000 rpm on normal driving and somtimes the occasional 4-5..lol highway miles are great 25-27.....and thats me going 70-90-100 in that range....
well here is somthing u might want to consider is the weight of your rims becuase it looks like u got chrome and everyone knows that chrome weighs tons take it from me i no im not my second set of 20's but here is the difference i had first put on niche f 18 which were heavy as hell and now i got boss 327's which are alot lighter and improved my gas milage and also u compared my milage to yours rmr you have cvt i dont so the cold air intake might just still help you because i have always been told that CAI will increase airflow which helps ur engine breath which in turn increases gas milage but thats just what i have heard and have actually experienced because it helped me.....but i wish you much luck on quest to fight gas prices
fuel consumption back to normal
As I though, finally, changing the spark plugs fixed my gas mileage problem. I am getting 21.5 mpg (10.9 Litre/100Km) city driving as I did before.
Looking at the old spark plugs, I could see the spacing of the park plug was pretty much non-existant.

I'm surprised that with only 57 to 58 K miles on your 04 that all 6 of your spark plugs were shot. What exactly do you mean by the spacing being "non-existant?" Do you mean that the space for the spark to jump on the plug had become quite big?
how many thousandths of an inch were they out? platinum or regular plugs? they shouldnt be that bad if they were platinum and even if they were regular the electrode and ground shouldnt be that far out of spec at that mileage...
Sorry, I was wrong about changing spark plugs fixine my problem. The heavy engine and low gas mileage problem still persists. I am starting to hate this car now

Heavy Engine? Do you mean sluggish? Just a few thoughts, Check your air filter and air intake assembly for any obstructions, Replace Fuel Filter(Though unless you are putting bad gas in it that shouldn't be it), If your vehicle starts lugging under load get your exhaust checked out(Probable suspect Catalytic Converter, though rare in the 50ks). Just a few thoughts.
FYI, I may sound like I'm loony for stating the basics and the uncommon but hey I think these are your most likely possibilities. Take it or leave it
Also I got 416 miles out of my last tank(18.2 Gal) and thats with me WOT half the time.. with A/C running 90% of the time... all stock.. only fluid difference is my oil (5w30 Royal Purple). Worst recorded mileage was 17.8(according to the onboard computer, after recent reset, going up a canyon with varied grades (2%-10%)). Rated best was 34.8(Cruise Control 71 mph, Highway, minimal grades). And yes I'm psycho about numbers so I remember them. My current mileage is 51200 in a 4spd auto 2004 Nissan Max.
Hope I was informative..

i got 320 on my last tank... im gonna stop keeping my tank full-a lot of people have been getting gas stolen from their cars here in phoenix, az. somebody drilled a hole in my friends titan a couple weeks ago... bull****!
I came here looking for precisely this information. I just bought a 2k4 SL and after filling up twice have come to the calculation of 15 mpg. I do about 85% city 15% highway. While I am disappointed with the car's fuel economy I am glad to hear that I'm not the only one getting this kind of mileage.
Many things can affect gas mileage. First check all your tires and make sure they are 35 psi or more. Check your air filter and make sure its clean, or clean it if its the kind you can clean. Make sure your alignment is good. Does the car pull to one side when you are cruising on a level road? Make sure your tires are good and there is no unusual wearing - scalloped edges, excessive wear in one particular area or the whole tread. After that, it gets more exotic - leaky fuel injectors, unreleased parking brake, seizing wheel bearing, ECU malfunction etc.
