Sounds good, but what LED did you get? I mean I got 4 pages & about 14 different categories to go through. I could narrow it down to white but is there a difference in LED...they are a single LED bulb correct? Nothing like the 194 (from www.autolumination.com) Reverse tail light that has 9 small LED's in a light bulb factory setting. Sorry for all the questions.

Those LED's are the type that you need but I used 13,000mcd 5MM LED's that are more than 4 times brighter than these. It just depends on what you are satisfied with. No disrespect intended, just thought I would point out that the mcd's are a lot less than what I had recommended for everyone to use. Looks really good, can you post some side shots at night.

OK, so I saw this thread and decided I would do this mod. I bought my Max a little over a month ago and I thought that this is something I have to do. I am posting this reply for all 07-08 owners. . . .THIS MOD WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT EXTRA WIRING!!! The 07-08's are different from the 04-06 models in that the step lamps ONLY illuminate when the door is opened and NOT with the remote. I am researching if both models use the same BCM and if they do, can it be reset/programmed to work with the remote. I've already purchased everything to do the mod only to find this information out. If it cannot be reset/programmed, extra wiring will have to be run to make the LEDs operable. Needless to say, I'm very disapointed.

Keep us posted, I mean those with 07-08's. I don't mind runnin' more wires, as long as the mod CAN be done. Don't forget pics please.

yea i believe its all wiring ran through the doors... and you just drill a whole in the handle and wire the led through there... i like the modd alot but probably wont be tempting it... you can run the wires through your speaker tubing into either the fuse box or even ur courtesy lights... also... what ppl are meaning by remote is when you unlock your car doors your domes, door lights and usually all interior lights turn on... so you just find which one you want and wire it to that... very easy modd to wire up... good luck to all who try this!

Do you have to get the 13,000mcd LED's or can you go higher to something along the lines of 27,000mcd?? Would the brightness just increase??

go to autozone, they have the 4 pack leds there. I have had mine installed since the day after I first saw this post back in April and no probs yet. This is a very hot mod and gets lots of attention. really doesn't take too long either. As I mentioned earlier you can also do the interior led mods too. Link is in my last post on this thread.

You can use any MCD you want but the higher the MCD, the higher the intensity of the light. Hope all works out well.

I think someone had saw it on a BMW or a Benz, because I know the lights on one of those are aimed downward to the ground and they fade in and out. It's pretty cool to see on a Max too.

This is really cool. I'd hate it if the stinking LEDs burned out though.

So they only come on when you lock and unlock the car right? They don't burn full time when you turn your headlights on, do they?

this is a very easy install and if you follow the instructions you shouldn't mess it up. The only thing I could see someone messing up is drilling. Take your time and do it right. Push too hard with drill you might crack it. Worst case you have to buy a new door handle. Being that it is a two part handle it probably won't cost all that much. Might come unpainted though. Then you have to figure that all out. Yea just be careful. You can allways have someone you trust do the install. This mod is about as easy as they get. I swear this took about 10-15min a door. Spending about 9-14 of those minutes taking the door apart.

I read through all the lighting service manuals for the 07 model. I couldn't find anything that said the step lights worked when the doors unlocked, but couldn't find anything that said they didn't. The only way you will be able to test this is to take the inside of the door apart and get in the car and close the door. You will have the plug that came from the light available to take voltage readings from. Take voltages with the doors unlocked and shut, then take them with the doors locked and shut. You should get 3.8 volts when the light is illuminated. If you get 3.8 volts when it is unlocked, then you will be able to use this as a connecting point for this project. If this test doesn't work then you will still be able to use the foot lights connection inside the car. More wires to run but worth it. I don't see why they would change the BCM for 07 and 08.
