help! is something wrong with my engine?

help! is something wrong with my engine?

Hey this is the second time this has happened.
When i am idling it seems my rpm would go up and down and there would be vibrating. I own a 2004 maxima se with about 75xxx miles on it, im wondering what the cause can be?

And another problem. When i park, even on a very small hill, like in front of my house, my car moves back and forth until it stops.. what can this be? I know i have to replace my struts is it because of that?

The Idle up and down could be the IAC or the TPS. THe rocking back and forth in park has to do with the tranny I think the is a lock or something in the tranny when you put it in park( Trannies and not my thing so just an Idea)

i noticed my RPMs going up and down a little and my car had about 38K on it also run 93 at the pump so i ran some Lucas injector cleaner with a full tank
and man let me tell you that stuff works smooth as ever i use this stuff about twice a month with a tank of gas no more issues 4 months later

A slight bump in idle rpm is normal, if your wheels are turned and depending how much of a draw the accessories are pulling, it should be minimal at most, something only the driver would notice, if a back seat passenger makes a comment you have a problem.

Rocking after park, just get into the habit of pulling the e-brake before letting off the brake, I don't like how the car jerks when you put it in park, and they say all the pressure can eventually lead to breaking the park think (can't think of the actual term)

I always read that when you do a fuel injector cleaning you do it before an oil change, but maybe I'll try some cause the autozone has Lucas products for everything

STARR is right. If the car is on anything but level ground, unless the parking brake is tightened before the brake pedal is released, the car will move until the pin in the tranny catches. The tranny pin is not designed to handle great force, and it is not a good idea to let it be stopping the car on a slope.

I always use the parking brake before releasing the foot brake, and the greater the slope, the tighter I tighten the parking brake. My wife puts the car in park and releases the footbrake before tightening the parking brake, and gets what may be the same rocking lurch jc822 is describing.

Some good ideas posted above.

I recommend the fuel injector / fuel system cleaner, but I prefer Chevron's Techron. There were reports (never scientifically confirmed) that the use of these cleaners had a tendency to increase the viscosity of your motor oil -- which is why I like to do my fuel system cleaning just before I change my motor oil. But given your current problems, I would do the cleaning now rather than wait.

The pin in your auto trannie that holds the car when you put the trannie in Park has to fit in a hole in a shaft. As you use this feature more, this hole can become slightly enlarged. This may be the source of some of the rocking you are experiencing now -- but did not have when the car was newer. "light's" recommendations about the parking brake are probably your best solution. You don't want to break this pin in the trannie.

use your parking brake!!!!! if ur parked on a hill and just put it in park, it puts immense stress on the pin that holds your trans in park. if you keep doing it he pin will break and your car will roll down teh hill. thats why they tell you to use the parking brake or "e-brake" whenever your put it in park.
