CVT Max. 32 mpg while cruising???
One of the things I hated most about my '07 max was the horrible fuel economy it was returning with each fill up. My first tank I barely got above 15mpg city and a best of 24 mpg highway.
Recently, after talking to another member (kevin007) about this very same subject, he told me he was able to get over 30 mpg with his '07. I was saying to myself there is no way in hell mine would do this but I was willing to give his method a try. Pretty simple actually. Keep the speed below 65 mph in cruise and the mileage will rise dramatically.
I hit the highway for a little tnt just to give this thing a try. I got my speed to around 63 mph, set the cruise and, reset the mileage computer. It took a minute to finally give me a reading but boy was I shocked when I saw 33 mpg flash on the screen. I rode for around 6 miles with the mileage never dropping below 31 and finally settling on 32 mpg.
On the return trip, I kicked the speed up to around 70 mph. My mileage then dropped down to 26 mpg.
Just like I found out at the track, the CVT really kills the fun around 80 mph and, it really does show its inefficiency as speed builds while on the road.
What kind of mileage are you guys getting with your 6th gens...CVT or not.

I drive part highway and part in city going to and from work and it's about 38 miles one way and I average 23-24 MPG and I believe that is pretty good since it's about half highway and half in town. I average about 340 miles before I fill up and I still usually have between 4-5 gallons still in the tank.
But I also set the cruise control for the highway part when I can and I average about 65-70. I also don't really use the computer I figure up my mileage the old fashion way good ole math. :-)
I will be traveling to Atlanta this weekend and it's pretty much drive over and park the car for four days and then drive back so I will see what the mileage looks like with just interstate driving then.

i have an 08 and i get 22-24 city 30+ hwy.
ive learned that you can let up on the throttle a little and still keep your speed, but not use as much gas.. basically you dont have to have the pedal pushed down as far as you think you do... if that makes any sense.

With some city driving combined with my daily commute of 110 miles roundtrip on the highway, I usually get around 24-26 mpg per tank. Thats going 80-85 mph in Chicago traffic, if i drop it to 55 mph i can get 34-35 mpg on the highway.

You don't say, driving slow and not beating on the engine will always improve gas mileage..But let me be the first to say, those digital readouts don't mean jack...They're not even real, they don't make sense, and change every second....The second you reset it, it always gives u high mileage..As long as your at a normal rate...When your at a traffic light, reset it, and then drive and stop..The reading usually comes out to 12mpg haha..I don't get more then 250miles out of a tank...

I wish I could get that..I never beat on the damn car..Keep it under 2100 rpm all day long..But I can't manage more then 250 out of a tank.. Would resetting the ecu help? Maybe its gotten used to my first month, and how I drove? Who knows..Well even back then I barely beat on it..

i average around 27mpg on the tank. cruising around 60-70mph i was getting around 30-31mpg. ever since i installed a cone filter im getting about 33-34mpg at that speed. elevation here is 5280 which im sure plays a part in it

I remember awhile back when I drove to San Diego which is about 100+ miles from LA I was getting 36mpg and was averaging 75-80mph. On the way back I got 33mpg with the same speed. Also I didnt reset the mileage computer to get that reading. On that tank of gas it lasted me alittle over 400 miles. So its possible to get high mpg on the Maxima.
