Quality of the 2008 SE
Traded my 2006 SL for a "family practical SUV" last year and now looking around for another Max for myself. The prices I am seeing on Autotrader for an '08 SE are below $19k with ~25k miles on them. Not crazy about the CVT and do not want to spend $30k on a new car and then get taxed to death (Taxachussets). But would like to know about potential problems with the 08 model year???

I've got an 08 with about 23,000 on it. So far I've not had any problems mechanically with it,including struts and transmission. I had an issue with the headliner behind the sunroof but that has been fixed. I'm averaging around 22+ mixed driving. I had an 05 loaner while they were working on the headliner and the 08 has better seats I think, more support and a better shape, ymmv of course. I put around 30,000 or a year on a vehicle so ask this time next year for a 60K review. Hope that helps. Frank

i have a 08se with 31k. the only problem ive noticed has been the ticking when i start the car. someone started a thread about it already. my car will be going to the dealer asap. other than that my car has run flawless. even with the changing of the exhaust and cai. my mpg depends on my driving. i have a heavy foot.

I bought my 08 new and haven't had any real problems out of it. I've noticed that now that when I start it up I hear the heat shield vibrating a little. A majority of the problems that the car has had was caused by the stealership and the service dept. It been in 4 times in the last 3 months. But I think we finally have an understanding. I aint takin no BS so fix it right and I'll leave you alone...for now!
Overall the car has been GREAT!

hey i know youre asking about '08's but i've got an '07 with 41k miles on it...no problems so far, aside from a steering wheel bolt falling onto my feet while driving...turns out it was one holding the steerig wheel in place...could have been bad, but took it back and got it put back in lol

i have an 08 with 12k miles on it. no real problems here. i only hear a chirpings sound from the rear passenger wheel whenever i go through some bad roads like rail road tracks. dunno what it is.

that chirp is the strut problem everyone is talking about. As far as an 08 Max, go for it. CVT is a good transmission and so far seems better than this piece of crap 5at I have. either way sounds like a good deal. 1 year old with less than 36k miles and less than 20k for it. they go for 36k new. sounds like a steal. interior hasn't changed much from your last one so you know how much you liked your old interior and exterior is exactly the same minus front end and rear lower part. Improved if you ask me. Good luck with the decision making. Ohh if you can hold out, I would wait till around mid to late march for better deals on the lots. economy will be worse and tax season for the dealers makes great deals for the consumers.
