Another Possible Tranny Failure!

Well I was driving the other day in manumatic when all of the sudden I went from 1st to 4th then to 3rd. Threw the SES light. So I went home and parked it. Later that night I drove it to the mechanics with no issues but the SES is still on. Of course I have 68,000 on it and the warranty is expired. So I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Is it possible that more tranny problems may possibly be from using manumatic more often?

manumatic leads to a broken tranny. I stoped using it along time ago. I had the same issue with my old mazda millenia, Auto trannys are meant to be automatic. Its ok to play around with manumatic but its more for up/down hill driving then racing around town.

This is why I let the ecu manage the shifting. I worry about this all the time.

Well people the time has come for all of us to make a costly repair at one time or another and its not very much fun. The added headache of not having a loner vehicle when the car is down can be just as irritating too.

I HAVE A SOLUTION!

As many of you know I work for a Nissan dealer in the Baltimore, Maryland area and deal with the headaches day after day. I FEEL your pain!

This past month I was given the opportunity to sell what is in my opinion the BEST aftermarket service contract on the market. I have dealt with many companies and not one holds a candle stick to these guys. The company is Fidelity Warranty Services and this is what I can offer you.

-Bring the vehicle in to your local dealer and right away the advisor can give you a rental car on Fidelity. If there is nothing that is covered by the warranty the company will STILL pay for that first day.

-Don't have the up front money for a expensive warranty? NO worries, you can finance it! It gets better... NO credit check and as little as 10% down!

-If your vehicle is still under the manufacturers warranty (3YR/36K) you can purchase the service contract for up to 100k and if you do not use it... you can get all of your money back except for a $50 admin fee.

-Deductibles can be arranged in $0, $50, $100, $250. Coverage can be power train only or bumper to bumper.

-I can get service contracts provided you have less than 100k. Even if its power train only... this is still a benefit with the known issues with our transmissions.

If anyone is interested please PM me and leave your full vin number and mileage for a quote. ALL information will be kept confidential and will not be shared with anyone except the service contract provider and myself.

Or you can drop around 4k and get these guys to build you a nice power train.

you think this applies to the 08 maxima's with the cvt?? 6speed tiptronik... would using this often mess up the tranny eventually also or nah?

I understand what some of you are saying about not using tiptronic for shifting and letting the ecu do the shifting for you, however the way the ecu shifts for you means alot more shifting when speeding up and slowing down which in reality means more wear on the transmission. This is taking into consideration your driving habits. If you aren't redlining in every gear before you shift then you should be fine. I use tiptronic alot now after I blew my first tranny. I did that while in D not tiptronic but I beat the crap out of that tranny at the track so it was going to happen eventually. This tranny if you do research on it just barely covers the torque specs of the maxima. A horrible choice by nissan. I am talking about the 5 speed not the cvt. When I replace this tranny it will be either beefed up or a CVT.

fastmax05, i have this extended warranty, i have the gold plus which is the one down from top of the line, but everytime i have had something gone wrong with my car the warranty has never covered it, i had an egr valve go bad, then the a/c broke and didnt cover and some other things that i would think the warranty would have covered, and recently started having some other problems with the car but money is tight and i am not trying to take it in cuz if the warranty doesnt cover it, the stealership still charges me like 120 bucks just to tell me its not covered, is there anything i can do about this, as far as trying to sell my warranty back to them.

I'd love to see the requirements of that contract. Most aftermarket warranty co's I've delt with request prof that all the maintenance on the vehicle be according to the mfg. spec, and without written prof, they deny the claim. You gotta have everything documented. My shop now turns away anybody who comes in with any sort of aftermarket warranty. It's not worth our time to inspect the car and attempt to get a claim through. The deals always sound good, but try to get them to pay for a repair. NFW.
NBC did a whole series about that a while back. Bottom line was don't waste your $$ on them.

Update: Just got the car back, had the tranny flushed and put in new fluid. TTech said there was no signs of metal pieces in the fluid, just dirty as hell. That special Nissan tranny fluid is expensive, $10 a quart. Anyway whole job cost $189.00. Car has been shifting like new. Guess I got lucky. Anyhow not going to take anymore chances I pm'd Faust about the extended warranty I'm thinking it is only a matter of time. LOL.
