Mine does, when i start the car they usually lock after like 10 seconds, if all the doors are closed. When i turn the key off and take it out, the doors unlock.

Go to www.nicoclub.com/FSM and download the '06 service manual. The electrical diagnostic charts should answer your question. Our 4th Gen does, but I think that is the Viper Alarm module doing the work. My 2k2 never did, and the '09 locks the doors at 15km/hr.

Just another FYI if you did not know, if you hold down the unlock button on your key FOB when your windows are up, they will roll down. For safety reasons, this will not work for going up. BUT you can stick your key in the door lock, turn to lock and hold and your windows will roll up!!!

Door lock settings are programmed through the NAVi or Display screen!!!

auto locking & unlocking

My base 06 SE won't do it auto, but maybe with some options it does. If you have a aftermarket alarm it probably will also. Thats one thing that i miss on the max. My grand prix does it automatically.

I was wondering this as well.

I just came back from vacation and rented a base altima (07-08). It locks when you go above 10 or 15 mph and unlocks when you put the car in P (or turn it off, I don't remember).

I would think my Maxima (6.5 gen) would do this as well, but it doesn't.

I went to my settings and "personal settings" was not an option. Is there another way to get to it? One of the choices it to have all the doors unlock the fist time you hit the button on the key fob and I think I would like that.

My 2003 Duramax does it, you can turn it off... Oh, Maxima Forum not Diesel, sorry
My 2008 Maxima base model does not have auto lock. I think it was only on the upgraded models with Nav screen.

I have a 2006 SE without Navi and it does that feature for me. Locks when I turn on the car and unlocks when I turn off. Even if I forget to lock car it will auto lock even if keys are in side. Had that happen to me in garage when listen to some music and me outside..

Tonight I was driving in my car and I came to the "personalization (sp?) menu" and I moved the joystick thing and it just beeped at me. I couldn't get it to go through any menu options. Any suggestions?

go to the dealer, they should not charge you to do this. It comes standard. It is a safety feature. Doors should lock when the Engine is running and the car is put into any gear other than Park. Then the doors should unlock when the car is put in park and the Engine is stopped, IE key turned off. There is like a 3 second time delay when this happens. I will search the options to see if this option is one you can turn on and off.

So I searched the Audio, Visual & Telephone System section of the Service Manual and could not come up with a diagram that linked the Display Screen to the Door locking Mechanism, except for the Doors open signal which displays when the door isn't shut while car is moving. This signal is nulled out when the doors are locked. Here is what it says exactly: WARNING INDICATIONS
When unified meter and A/C amp. receives warning signal from some control units or sensors, then combination meter warning lamp is illuminated. Then unified meter and A/C amp. sends warning signal to display unit warning indications on the screen.
Setting items
Setting variations
Initial setting
Operation
DISPLAY ON/OFF ON It switches display/Non-display of the screen.
LANGUAGE:
ENGLISH/
FRANCAIS
– It switches displayed language.
BEEP SET ON/OFF ON It selects beep sound ON/OFF during switch operation.
SERVICE ALERT ON/OFF OFF
It switches display/Non-display of alert indication.
When the setting is ON, if engine oil or tire rotation will be replace distance, alert is displayed.
When the setting is OFF, alert is not displayed.
PERSONALIZED SETTINGS MENU
CONFIRM
RESET SETTINGS
YES/NO OFF If YES is selected, all setting items are return to default.
Now Change display
DAY DAY (adjustment)→NIGHT (adjustment)→DAY (adjustment)→·····
NIGHT NIGHT (adjustment)→DAY (adjustment)→NIGHT (adjustment)→·····
SKIA4374E
Warning indicators
Warning lamps in instrument panel:
Warning detection and cancel conditions Cases of malfunction
DOOR OPEN
Door Detection condition:
Vehicle is moving [approx. 5 km/h (3 MPH) or
faster] and door ajar of any of the doors is
detected. Door is open
Cancel condition:
Vehicle is stopped and all the doors lock.

Not that this answered your question but at least some of the leg work of looking it up in the AV section is done . Also rules out the ability to change any settings in the Display screen like many of us thought was the case.

So even though I read through the AV section I still could have sworn I saw something in the system settings menu. I went out to the car and turned car on clicked on setting then clicked down 5 times till it said Personal settings. Then clicked down again till I saw settings that were for the door locks. One was set to "DR 1st" and the other was set to "1 Min". I didn't look too much into it but it works for me. hope that helped. I still have 7 hours left here at work so I will keep looking for the answer.

I belive that setting is for using the remote to unlock the door, you can have it just unlock the drivers door , or have it unlock all the doors.
with the first push of the button. I still think its an option on the SE. Maybe the SL has it standard.

could be, but I wouldn't see what kind of option package that would be included in concidering what controls the actuation of the door locks. You would have to get a BCM and IVFC upgrade. I think it's a standard safety feature for all models.

You know come to think of it I have had an aftermarket alarm system installed since the second day of owning my max so maybe, that's what allows my doors to lock and unlock.

I notice that the personal menu only comes on when you have the engine running and not just when you turn the key to get the power on.

Yes, I realized that too. Just today actually. I set mine up to where all doors unlock upon one push of the unlock button on the key fob. But I don't have the option of the doors locking when I put it into drive.
