Custom Exhaust Help

I have just sold my Cattman B-Pipe, Y-Pipe still for sale. With this step comes the choice between my setup options.

The scientist gave me two options.

option 1: True Dual 2.5in Mandrel Bent Stainless from headers back. Piping from headers into an x-pipe then ran all the way back to dual mufflers, no resonator.

option 2: Full 3in from headers to either dual or single mufflers with resonator.
problem here is clearence, especially on coilovers.

I am more focused on perfomance rather than sound, although I enjoy both.

Any opinions or experience would be appreciated.

2005 Altima SER BTW

Thanks

well i may be biased, but i'd say go with the 3".. i don't know what gains people have seen from true duals on our cars... i know custom enterprise had a true dual catback, but i dont know hat kind of numbers it put down.. i have a custom 3" exhaust.. it is very nice, and you can definitely feel the power

his set up is pretty sweet, although I am curious about his header to midpipe setup.

I wasnt able to see how it is.

I was also curious as to why he went with two small resonators instead of one big one.

here is an article I just got done reading before I saw this thread because I am getting ready to do some exhaust work. I, after reading the article, think 3in back straightpipe with dual tip straighthrough mufflers at the end would be the best. Some backpressure and less droning than with straightpiping all the way. http://www.modified.com/tech/9912scc...ems/index.html

How much are you willing to spend? You could always get some custom longtube headers...

I am extremely please with my 3" mandrel bent single muffler exhaust. There is no ground clearance problems at all, power is strong from idle to redline. I have the cattman header, cattman y pipe with cat and then the 3" catback. It does not drone, and is reasonably quiet under 3500 rpms.

I went with two smaller resonators because I wanted it quieter than the largest single Magnaflow resonator. I think the largest was 22" so I used 2 14" resonators. They have no baffles so they are not very restrictive at all and yet they take the edge off the exhaust note so its very nice sounding at lower rpms.

Btw, a single muffler is lighter than two mufflers. I blocked off the other opening in my bumper.

ahhhh, now I am not sure...

Imade a decision today to go with a single 3" straight pipe from headers back to dual 3" mufflers..

thanks for the input guys

about the headers, I really want to do that..
need to find out if my guy could do that, I am sure he could for the right price...

Go single muffler but maybe dual tips? It would be a first.

I could still change it, I am having second thoughts about the 2.5-3"

He was telling me something about the velocity, I really want to go 3" from headers back....

what do you all think.

have you ruled out the dual exhaust setup?

also, there is a video of someone in a 5.5 gen with 3" exhaust and it sounded really good....

The pics dont really do it justice....

For clearence and velocity issues we went: 2.25 from collectors to 2.75 flex pipe to 3" all the way back through straight through muffs...

I will be lowering the car with some JIC Magic VIP so clearence was an issue.

The shield covering the gas tank was bent up, gained about an inch doing that.

Sound is great, cant wait till the mufflers are broken in.

I also had a bung welded in right where the Y meets for wideband...
