How far below empty can we go?

I have an 04 SL in good shape. I left my wallet at home and was 20 minutes away form home when I realized it. Doh! I have driven 15 miles past when the computer sasy 0 miles to empty. It's about 5 miles to the nearest gas station. Do you think I can make it (with someone following as a contingency)? Should I go ahead and catch a ride to get a gas can?

There's about a 3.5-4 Gallon reserve, it's almost excessive in my book. So typically right when the onboard says you have zero, you could get an easy 50-60 more and still have enough left to not run dry.

I have a 5.5 gen and sometimes I get sooo lazy i have easily gone around 25 miles with no hesitation. But we are killing our fuel filter for sure.

Also Is our tank like 19.5 gallons?

I don't know much about the 5.5, but the 6 and 6.5 have a 20 gal tank...

There was an earlier thread on this. I think the reserve was 4-5 gallons because Nissan didn't want to have to deal with many fuel filter problems. You can easily get around 50 miles but I wouldn't push it. The farthest I would do would be around 30.

It's all probably slightly diff depending on the float etc... Next time, you are near empty, get gas right when the light turns on. Note how much you get, minus that amount from the tank's capacity and there you go.

There's 3 gallons left when the gauge hits *** meaning 0 miles. Hit your fuel econonmy button for example if your averaging 19.0 miles per gallon then multiply that by 3, so you would run out at roughly 57 miles more.

The most gas I ever filled up was 19.7 gallons, and according to my calculations had less then 5 miles left.

20 gallon tank.

guage measures 16 gallons.

there is a 4 gallon reserve.

if the worst you get is 20 mpg, you know you can go 80 before empty.

of course search would tell you all this in the many previous threads
