Has anyone attempted to replace the oil pan gasket in the 6th gen? I read the service manual and it recommended the O-ring change also. Could someone chime in?

don't think there is a gasket replacement, just reseal it with some rtv and you should be good.

I do have a question though.... If you use the gasket is there a reason to also use RTV?

One guy in the 5th gen forum said it would make a better seal!

There are actually two gaskets. Once called the lower oil pan gasket which is the traditional shaped gasket. You then have to remove the upper oil pan which has two half moon shaped gaskets. The RTV is required when bolting the upper pan back to the block..

I wouldn't even bother with using an actual gasket for the lower pan, I've never had an issue sealing them up with RTV (the same way they come from the factory).

But it really depends on which oil pan you're talking about.

I was just wondering if the gasket would make as good of a seal?
