fog light question - optional?

fog light question - optional?
Yesterday I was inspecting my friends sister's maxima (2004). While checking the lights I noticed that there were no fog lights coming on with the switch. From what I understand the fog lights are in the headlights? I see the lens in there, but they do not work. The car had somewhere around 84,000 miles on it. My friend said the dealer told them that fog lights were optional, but all Maximas came with them installed in the headlights. He also said that it didn't come with any wiring, relays or fuses for the fog light system. What I don't understand is why it has a switch on the stalk, or the lights where they need to be. Does anyone have any insight on this? Seems very strange to do half the job and just leave it like that.

The dealer is confusing things so Ill clear them up for you. Fogs came on all Maximas but Daytime Running Lights (DRL) came on Canadian models only. We have the lenses for DRLs but there is no bulb or socket. Several people on here have installed lights in their DRLs however, but you have to do some drilling and cutting.
Here is a photo of a 2004-2006 Maxima headlight showing where the fog light is and the DRL:

Right, that much I understood. The same place where you circled the fog light was what I was referring to. So what you're saying is that all of the Maximas came with those fog lights, and they should work? I didn't think they came with DRL's. So being that the switch is in the stalk and the lenses are in the headlights, then it should have fog lights? It's amazing what a dealer will tell people just to get them away and not worry about something. I guess I'll check bulbs and fuses the next time I look at it. But they all did come with working fog lights for that year?

There's no reason why there would be a switch if fog lights didn't come with the car. Its like putting a 4wd switch in the maxima.
I say check your fuses/relay/ bulbs first and if its not any of those, talk to someone much smarter at the dealership.

That's what I figured. No reason to put all the stuff there and leave out all the middle. The car was probably neglected and the bulbs eventually burned out or something. Maybe it's a fuse. I don't know haha, didn't have time to look at it. I just figured I'd ask the 6th gen guys, since I have a 5.5 and have no idea about anything for 6th gens. Still find it amazing how dealers will make up something so bizarre like that just to avoid looking at it. Very lame if you ask me.

The fog light bulbs on the 04-06 headlights have a tendency to blow (a lot of threads on this) try replacing a bulb 1st b4 anything else... also you DO NOT need to take the bumper off to change them. To gain access to the bulbs on the drivers side you can remove the front part of intake, and on the pass side remove the cover and windshield wiper neck (also plenty of write-ups)
