Header Install

Well, I finally bit the bullet and installed my headers...

I attempted to three weeks ago and was hit on the way to a friends house to do the install... Damage has been fixed and modding commenced...

I went ahead and installed those damn mmi's also..

I have to say this took me longer than I wanted to... I would have to say a total of 10 hrs. with two sets of hands... This is partly because of the fact we had to use hand tools on the entire job... My electric impact did not suffice.. Did not have access to a good pneumatic nor did I want to stop the progress..

I only had to remove the fan and the elbow on the manifold.. This probably contributed to the length of the install.. Plus the mmi's...

I did not extend my o2 sensors, I just traced the wideband o2 wires back a little and pulled some slack, there was not much.. I will only need to extend and solder one wire on each wideband... My secondary o2 sensors are just plugged in and hanging from some zip ties...

I will be eliminating the secondary o2 sensors as well as the EGR system through the ECU.. After this I will probably just leave the secondaries plugged in and I will be removing the entire EGR setup.. The module and all.. Plug the port on the header and fab a little 1/8 in. block off plate on the manifold..

I also wrapped my headers... Something I could not make a decision on for some time but decided to do it...

Some pics...

I am thinking of installing a resonator because the sound in the car is really.... raspy.. ricey...

see u next time!!

thats for the o2 , its a very tight reach to get down there, your setup sounds nice , and not raspy due to the 3 inch exhuast ,

I would love to see what you make on #s with the SSIM mod and 3 inch exhuast.

I bet your loving it... I know I was when I went with headers

EDIT : I just read you said it is raspy , in the vid it doesnt sound like it but yes you will need resonators.

Also your running stock intake ?

also if you block the EGR the SES light stays on , I have yet to figure how to by pass it.
I was going to block off the EGR but the SES bothers the hell out of me these past 2 half years.

Im thinking when the manifold is finshed I will route the EGR back into the manifold

no need.. on the tenth I will be tuning at uprev.. they have the capability to eliminate the secondary o2, egr function, add a two step... to name a few...

running stock intake still... been wanting to go full 3" WAI but have yet to figure out the solution.. I guess I could go custom.. I need to figure it out before the tenth..

right now I have no codes.. as of yet anyway..

there is a thread about a new type of intake c2 or something of the sorts. Let me see if I can find it. Supposed to be the most optimal intake available.

I recommend going with Spectra then until you get the R2C. Cheap and easy. Works well. I have had mine installed since 04 with no problems. Just replace filter about 2 times a year.

they do have filters available though(R2C), so you could do a 3" maf housing with a pop-charger type velocity stack and their jwt replacement filter...just a thought

good idea. Use the Spectra tubing and the R2C filter.

now on z1 motorsports, they are selling the r2c filter as a replacement to the pop charger....

I am wondering if I need that metal ring, velocity stack, from the pop charger, or if the r2c replacement has one...

I was also looking at the r2c intake for the single throttle body 350z's.. I think it would fit my engine bay...

unless you plan on spray or boosted, you wont need to spend that kind of money for a fuel pump N/A

the OEM pumps enough for all your bolt on needs

Nice! You will love the headers! If you eventually start throwing a lean code (P1283/1273/1284/1274) and manage to get that taken care of with UpRev, please let us know, as a few of us with the headers are dealing with this, and that would be a relatively easy fix!

As for wrapping the headers, I suppose you'd be ok, being from Texas... so long as it doesn't rain a lot. I'd be worried about moisture here in Chicago though... The install looks good!

Concerning the R2c intake... I sent a note off to Ed, asking for an update on when it'll be available for sale. It's been awhile since I've had the prototype in my car, and even I'm getting impatient.
