hoping to come back...

Being a former 5th gen owner I have to say I miss this thread. Cut to the point! I got rid of my 5th gen lightly modded in Jan. and a few members reeped the benifits of buying some sweet toys @ clearance prices. "hey Z if you see it in your area holla @ me." W/ a growing fam I decided to jump in a 05 Lincoln Navigator... beautiful truck but like a sexy psycho girlfriend I have had nothing but headaches.. through warranty I have had...
engine replaced
multiple o2 scensors
rear parking censor
And as off now its going in for who knows what now (engine light on and it wont go past 2k rpm)
I have made a decision to start shopping around and decided on a 07-08 Maxima. What I need from you guys is advice...
Any current issues?
What to look out for?
How reliable is the CVT?
I like beats so if anyone has installed a aftermarket headunit perferbly a double din please chime in cause i would still like to use mine but from pics it doesnt look like a easy install.
What ever you guys can supply me w/ the better my decision can be...

sorry to hear about the Navigator... those and the QX45 are my favorite.

The 07-08 is a good choice for a 6th gen. Even though you will get those few owners who say the CVT sucks. The only bad part about the CVT, u lose power from 90mph+.

However 2-3rd gear pulls pretty strong and smooth.

A few mods can be done to your 6.5 gen to help speed up your time.

Looks and interior are are better on the 6.5 gen... IMO

no known issues with the CVT have come up on the forums. Just keep in mind, the CVT (non-shift) feeling takes a little to get use to. But the 3.5 engine power is still there.

My biggest pet peeves are the TPMS is too touchy to low tire pressure, stock rotors warp to easy, and the placement of the intermittent wiper adjustment.

So far i have about 28k of problem free miles on my 07 SE. The double din install can only be done on the non-navi radio. There is not a dash kit available for the navi that i know of. Replacement of the stock head unit will also render the drivers information display inoperative unless you also install the NIRD-01 module.

Its a bunch of wires but not hard at all in my opinion. If i remember right its only two screws to get the center dash/AC vents off then pull to release the clips. Then 4 screws to remove the center stack with the radio, drivers info, and AC displays.

I just came into a 2006 Maxima SL from a 97 Lexus LS400. All the luxury options and more, plus the boosty, sporty handling. I like the look/feel of my 06.

Can't go wrong with a Max. They are great cars, whatever year you decide.

Do it!

Little over a year in mine without a single problem - I really love this car.
I think the leather is the best I have ever owned - very durable for toddlers yet comfortable and sharp. I have no problems going straight up to 110 with the CVT, but I don't do it too much any more now that I am getting older - as I approach 40, I am less interested in racing. I will tell you, though, that this is just as fast as my TL-S was with more room, and quiter ride. For a BOSE (non NAV), I think the stereo sounds pretty damn good. I also like the plush ride on the stock 17s, and I can whip around traffic with ease in rain or shine. I didn't think I needed a NAV (I am a MAN, and always know where I'm going ), but there are some options that you need a NAV to adjust in the 6.5 gen (seat exit, lights off time, etc.); had I known this, I might have sprung for it. I change my own oil, and it is easy to do with ramps. I find my VQ does not burn any of the 5w30 Penzoil Platinum I use at all (switched around 5K). I guess my only complaint is the paint is not impervious to a-hole people parking next to me with their POS gougy doors ...

thanks for the replies... i been dipping into dealerships when i get free time. As of now my two choices are the 07-08 max and 05-06 g35x. I have to say w/ my experience test driving a few... the g35x is leading.
