Road Noise
Road Noise
I formerly owned an 03 Maxima and just bought an 06 earlier this week. It's a great car with lots of improvements over the 03 and so far I like it. However, I noticed since the day I was driving it home from the dealer that the road noise was significant. Totally unaccepatble in my opinion. At first I thought it was the tires. They changed the 2 front with Hankook Ventus V4ES and the back ones are still the orignal GoodYears. Was'nt familiar too much with the Hankooks so I did a bit of research on them and the reviews were not bad so I am thinking it might be something other than the tires. The car has 37000 miles on it right now. Does anyone have any thoughts, ideas or does this sound familiar? Figured I should get some input from the folks on this forum before taking it in. Thanks in advance.

There was a recall on the Good Year tires for 6th Gen maximas? what was the exact reason for the dealership to replace them? I also have a used 05 Maxima which i'm pretty sure are using Good Year tires. I've already hit 3/4 of the life of my tires and I wouldn't mind getting new ones for free from the dealer if I can.

[QUOTE=po8pimp;7234783]Must be your tires. For one having two different types of tires is not going to help because the tread will be different and the sounds coming from the tires will be different even on the smoothest road. Not sure about the Hankooks. Did you get the car from a Nissan dealer? If so I would call them and ask about the recall on the Goodyear tires. I believe they will replace them for free. Since you are not the original owner I am not sure of what they will do.
Yes I bought the car from a Nissan dealership in fact the same one I bought my 5th gen from. The 5th gen was new this was was used. They replaced the two front because they were worn. The back ones were in better shape and still have a siginificant amount of thread left on them. I am not sure which ones might be the culprit in this case whether it might be the Goodyears or the Hankooks or a combination of both. I am even thinking of test driving another 3.5 SE with Goodyears to make a comparison with cabin noise. Balancing on the new tires is fine with no vibration at any speed even up to 80mph and alignment is perfect. The person who saw the info on the Goodyear recall can you please post it if you remember where you saw the info. In the meantime I will do some searching and look into the recall and see if my 2 rear tires qualify.

I find that my 07 rides extremely quiet. I get very little road noise inside the car while I'm driving. I've also got dynamat Xtreme in my doors, but I thought the car was quiet before that. My first guess would most certainly be tires.
I thought Nissan put Continentals on everything. My 06 has the original continentals (30k) and they are very noisy at the end of their life. They also vibrate the car even though I had them rotated and balanced. I've seen time and time again car manufacturers put low tread life tires on the cars (~35k). Those goodyears might be at the end of their life. Also begs the question, my 06 SL has continentals, would your 06 be an SE?
I posted the link which explains the recall by goodyear. I am pretty sure it has to be your tires. I would have nissan replace all of them and I would go to a tire shop and find out where you can get info on why it is bad to mix and match different tire brands and treads. Take it in there and raise some hell.

when i bought my 04 with about 24K miles on it, the road noise was TERRIBLE. the tires needed to be replaced... which 3 of them were, through the recall.
car now has about 43K on it and its getting a bit noisy again- but nothing even really noticeable. when the tires need to be replaced again- it definitely WILL NOT be with goodyears.

my rear tires are different from my fronts and its kinda loud, i had tires laying around that i wanted to use until i can get 4 new ones. my friend has 18''s on his passat (ghey) and he has matching tires, his car sounds like its rolling on 44'' boggers. idk why they are so loud maybe its just the nature of the tire

Is anyone experiecing loud humming noise coming from the back when driving fast, specially more noticeable on the highway. the faster it goes the louder the noise. At one point I thought it was the muffler but when I reved it didn't make any noise then just to double check I turned off the engine while driving to make sure it wasn't the muffler and it wasn't.
So my next guess is the wheels or the Tires, I don't think it is the tires so could it be the rotors or the bearings ?
Has anyone had this problem ? My kids tell me the noise is coming from both sides of the car. both wheels are making lots of noise. any thoughts.
