Engine issues

I have a stock 04 maxima w 85k miles on it. Recently(last 5k or so) the vehicle has started consuming a ton of oil(a quart every 500 miles or so). It is also smoking badly under heavy acceleration, but doesn't seem to smoke at idle. Has anyone else had this kind of issue, These motors are supposedly bulletproof, but mine appears to have seen better days at a very early age. Based on what I can tell, I am assuming the rings are going, but I havent gotten around to doing a compression test to confirm this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe not.. Check the threads about the cat .. that may have something to do with the consumption.... If you rev the car and the smoke is blue and looks like its spinning out of the tail pipe then its probably rings...
